Do you know if they have actually done one yet? Many don't realise what is involved until they actually try.

I've toyed with the idea, it technically is possible but it would cost more than fitting a new amp, just in labour, for a meagre amplifier.
The DIN cable is rare and you'd have to splice into it, to tap into the amp inputs. It'd be easier to get the pinouts of the output (actually the good ol' 1.V battery trick works fine) and to wire in an aftermarket amplifier.

In other words, it's possible, but labour would be inhibitively expensive. It'd be cheaper to get a small amp fitted than to pay someone to do the wiring to use the Mcintosh amp.

From what I've researched, apparently you also lose the sub functionality if you try to keep the Mcintosh amp.

I have a trusty Eclipse PA5422 that really rocks, just been too busy of late to find the time to pull out the McIntosh amp and seat to wire and mount it. Yeah, I'm a slack arse !!!

Heya Jimmy,

Any word on where you got this and price?

Can you still use your Mac CD stacker?

Hi Guys,

About to acquire a MY05 LGT manual and trying to sort through all the info to work out how to get an iPOD connected to the existing Mcintosh.

I dont need to control the iPOD via the HU, I'm happy to do that via the ipod. I'm not bothered over charging etc either really. The main thing I want it to be able to take the signal from the iPOD into the HU without having to use one of those FM transmitters (which drive me nuts - especially on inter capital runs like Melb - Syd etc).

If I'm understanding correctly, the Axxess AIP-CL-ID would fit the bill? I've been searching fot these in Au, but have had no luck at all. Does anyone know a source? Basically, all I need is an AUX in. I'm in Melbourne, AU, but happy to source elsewhere.

The clarion unit PIE-CLR-AUX unit seems to require that there is a Clarion CE-NET stacker or similar also installed? I assume that being as the stacker in the dash is built in, its probably not connected via a CE-NET connection, and so doesnt work in this way? Ie, as per the pic at
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pieclraux.html

Sorry to resurrect this one.. I just cant seem to find a source for the AIP-CL-ID.

thanks in advance folks..

Yes, the Axxess unit is what you need. If you look through this thread I believe at least one person is using it. I think eBay might be your best source.

I have just bought a 2005 Liberty GT sedan and I have been looking everywhere for an AUX in cable but cant find much info on them. But the thing is I called the dealership (bought the car privately) and gave them the VIN number and apparently the car was taken into the dealership back in 2007 and had the factory headunit replaced with the one from 2007 model libertys.

It does have the aux button on the front of the head unit so I assume it must have the new headunit in it. If so what cable can I use to go to a 3.5mm Headphone Jack?

Dave, mate, I think you have put me back in the hunt for a system in my pre-face lift (MY05).

Basically, I can use the RCA input via the CE-NET thingo off any aftermarket deck (that would ordinarily output via RCA to an amp) and bing, bam, boom, I can put in any one of those nice 7'' integrated sat-nav / mp3 / DIV X video / DVD players (like the Eclipse AVN726EA or the new Clarion NX509a) into the top cubby hole.

Yer, I know I'm doubling up on audio output but the ease of which i can downgrade upon selling the car seems worth it.

Dave, I think what I'm trying to say is that if we ever meet, I'll buy you a beer!

Guys, have I missed something logically or does it sound like what I'm thinking will work?

Hi fibble,

The one I used was the Axxess AIP-CL-ID,and I bought it off eBay US. It cost me around $80 delivered. There is another adaptor called a CCA-iPod, which I haven't tested:

http://www.amazon.com/Clarion-CCAIPOD-I ... B000V7SAIQ

I believe the above is the same as the Clarion EA1276, which as far as I know works with 2007 HU's onwards. The EA1276 controls the iPod in a completely different way to the EA1251.

I'm currently using a genuine Clarion EA1251.

Be careful when buying an adaptor off eBay. I bought one advertised as an EA1251, and I ended up with a AIP-CL-ID. Some are advertised as an EA1251 / CCA-iPod, but to be honest I'm not convinced this is correct. It's either one way or the other.

Really? That's odd, the EA1251 is made by Clarion and the AIP-CL-ID is made by Axxess. They are totally different! Very confusing to have a retailer mix them up like that.

On a related note, do we know for sure whether the AIP-CL-ID works with MY04 McIntosh equipped Liberty's?

Oh and it does seem to be available in Australia:
