coating rims....where and how much?

Postby simoncam » Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:31 pm

Hey,

I am looking at getting my 08 Lib STi rims coated in matte black/charcol/black. Similiar to those 06/07 rims.

Can you advise on who does it? How much it costs? and please, everyone gimmie your thoughts?

I was thinking new set of rims, but I got these already and don't mind them and there is ZERO gutter rash as you can see.

Thoughts and advise, GO! :)

No gutter rash means you are a good parker, so maybe you could paint them glass black to match your calipers?

Polished, wouldn't that make for a chrome look? Cause I want to go darker not lighter :)

+1

I also think it will go with your car and give it a stealth look. ;)

Thats a good point! I found an 06 liberty with blackened shiny rims on the weekend and it looked pretty good. I think that matte black would make the rims look dirty too.

I hear that there are atleast two guys on this forum with 08 lib sti's that have blackened their rims...does anyone know who they are so I can PM them for pics?

Simo, this is mine... powder coated shiny black, proper colour is something like Black Onyx. Place is called Mr Clean in Padstow, NSW.

My wheels before powder coating.

Finished product.

This pic might be better with the reflection of the rim.

This is a mates car (aka Shano, White dude with tats all over :) JDM RSk) His rims are matt black and they don't look dirty at all.

I was comparing them today at Phat's place with the standard STi Charcoal colour, very different. Both are nice. Just depends on what look you're after.

Thats great man, thanks alot for that!

Normally I aren't one for black rims on a white car, BUT you have really made that car work! Looks mint!

Powder coating is about $60 to 80 per wheel and they have every colour under the sun. Just go to 1 or 2 local places and see what they have to offer. You will have to take your tires and wheels weight off (tire shop) and center caps. Then once you get them back get your tires fitted and wheels balanced. Hope that helps
