Faulty Dome Light?

Hiya guys,

I just noticed today that my Dome light sometimes turns on and it's fine and sometimes it just doesn't work at all!?!

I thought it was related to battery issues but it wouldn't turn on after an hour of driving?!? but it sometimes would just work by itself.. strange

anyone else have had similar problem?

When it doesn't turn on, does the door open indication light on the dashboard illuminate? If even that light doesn't come on then it's a problem with that door's pin switch or wire. In that case try another door to see if same problem. If it is then it could be a problem with the BCM! (Each door has a separate wire going to the BCM).

If the dash light comes on first thing I'd check is if the bulb in the dome light is loose (try wiggling it around or removing it and bending the contacts a bit). Failing that you may have to remove the dome light and check that the wiring harness connecting it is not loose.

Also check the rocker switch on the dome light as well, it may very well be sitting kinda halfway between "AUTO" and "OFF" or something. Just change the settings back and forth a few times.

Try swapping the bulb too, festoon bulbs get temperamental sometimes.

If a new bulb doesn't work, report it to Subaru immediately. If it is the BCM at fault, they are thousands of dollars to replace. Get it logged as a problem straight away.
