Sub in 03 Sedan

Postby talev788 » Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:09 pm

The boot in the sedan is so huge I am happy to put my old sub back in there, compared to when it was in my old corolla, had 0 space and it slid around like crazy

My question is, do you guys know of any appropriate spots that I could actually drill the sub in a tight position so thers no slippy slidey?

Well ive screwed my woofer down to the removable carpet. It stops it from moving and i only had to use 1 screw and 2 strips of velcro

Drill into the cross beam which runs across the top of the back seat. Use right angle brackets to bolt the bot into this beam.

Seen it done several times and it's not ideal. That beam is actually part of the subframe of the car and is a structural item. Not sure what the view of an insurance company would be in the event of an accident.

If you really want to hold the thing down, then put a sheet of ply/mdf under the carpet and drill down through the carpet into that. Will give you a solid fit and the thing wont' move a mm. Otherwise, look to clamp it to stuff, there's a couple of bars behind the rear seat or clamp it to that structural bar. Either way, there's some options, but none are 'easy' or perfect.

i didnt do it that way because if i need to remove for some reason it is not as easy...remember if you get a flat tyre you will need to remove it to access tyour spare

Design the dimensions of the box so that the spare tyre can still come out without having to remove the box, that's what I did.

Velcro.

It's strong enough, I've used it before on a heavy-ass fibreglass box and it did the job most of the time. MDF boxes are significantly lighter than fibreglass.
