The Next Sydney Drive - Date TBC

Postby swingn » Thu Jun 04, 2009 6:31 pm

Wouldn't mind a cruise down to the ACT, but I can't say I know of any good fun roads between Sudney & the ACT :(

That trip would actually be good to do as an other nighter :D

I suggested it in my Charity thread, but maybe we could make this cruise the Charity drive / cruise? :)

Canberra? You're going a loooong way out of your way to find fun roads to Canberra from Sydney. You can go down the coast and cross the escarpment at Robertson, Braidwood or Bega - the first option adds about an hour to the trip, the second, 2 or 3 hours and while Clyde Mountain is fun, the coppers like it too much and the run down the Princes dieway is suicide inducing. Getting down to Bega is a day drive in itself and you're still at least 2 or 3 hours from Canberra. Brown Mountain is supposed to be pretty damn good fun though

On the other hand you can cross the Blue Mountains (Bells Line is better) and take a couple of different routes. One is to run down through Oberon into Goulburn. That's a reasonably fun drive but again you're adding at least 2 hours onto the drive. From Goulburn you have the run through Tarago and Bungendore which while a nice country road isn't what one would really call a fun road.

Another option is to head out to the Mid Western Highway (either through Bathurst or the backroads to Mandurama), down to Woodstock, Frogmore, over the wall of Wyangla dam, into Boorowa and back tracking into Canberra. I'd say that would add something like at least 4 hours onto the drive - a bloody long day.

I'm happy for others to post other interesting options between Sydney and Canberra though.

canberra.......looks like someone needs stock up on pot porn and fireworks.

BTW Bells line is starting to ice over quickly duirng these humid conditions. it was slippery all last week, black ice was still on the road at 8:30am, and starting forming by about 4:30pm
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

Tried out the road from Kangaroo Valley to Berry Saturday evening. Good fun but a bit bumpy and quite narrow. Still lots of fun :D

My family lives in CBR, and I'm actually going down that weekend anyway (5th July) so if this pans out that that's the way your heading I'm in, otherwise, I'm out.

Maybe we could meet in the middle somewhere. Sydney guys head south on the Princes highway and Canberra guys head north. Then we meet up in Nowra.

Then from Nowra we could all head up through Kangaroo Valley on Moss Vale road. Finish up in Exeter and head home via the Hume Highway.

Im definetly up for stoping and getting a feed and beer at some point. Maybe the pub in Kangaroo Valley.

Once a date is decided I will try and see which Canberra guys are keen for a drive.

+1 for Kangaroo Valley, the pub seems like a good stop for refreshments.

The road leading there is great. The just recently repaved the windy mountain road.

Gents,

Now that I am back it's time to get this thing organised. :)

The date is confirmed for July 5th.

The route will be to the south. I will work with Tony on getting the route sorted out in the next couple of days. We will work out the meeting points when the route is finalised.

Well, I'm out... Working all that weekend :(

Will have to put the Charity thing off till another time... But I still would like to couple it with a club meet or drive of some description.
