Seen it done several times and it's not ideal. That beam is actually part of the subframe of the car and is a structural item. Not sure what the view of an insurance company would be in the event of an accident.
If you really want to hold the thing down, then put a sheet of ply/mdf under the carpet and drill down through the carpet into that. Will give you a solid fit and the thing wont' move a mm. Otherwise, look to clamp it to stuff, there's a couple of bars behind the rear seat or clamp it to that structural bar. Either way, there's some options, but none are 'easy' or perfect.
