Hi monkey. I did a bit of research on mounting a phone in the chubby, specifically Option 2 in your post. Unless you have a very small phone then it won't fit in the cubby so it will stick out a bit. Secondly, I bought a kidigi and the mount is too tall to fit in the cubby. I then went to buy a bendable mount but even that was too tall to fit. When you consider the size of the cubby, its almost impossible to have a mount inside that allows you to close the lid without having to remove the mount. Option 1 is worth trying because you can easily stick a few magnets under the cubby lid and buy a cheapo case for the phone/tablet. Still not as clean but its cheap and easy.

I have the Subaru auxiliary cable which I ran in a couple of years ago, and it connects to the HU via x2 square din plugs.
Forgive me if I've missed this in the thread somewhere but has any one modified this cable to allow connection of their tablets?

The opposite end in the centre console, attaches to the aux female input via a din plug as well. :?

My 3.5mm aux input is located in the centre console - right next to the 12V power plug (it has another 12v supply beneath the radio too).
Stock from factory - although may have been an optional extra. I've never pulled the HU apart so not sure what DIN, etc plugs exist.

Option 1 would be good IF you could also stick a Qi charger to the back of the cubby lid - eg http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/qi-wireless ... rging-mat/ and then put magnets at each corner.
.... but as Qi technology apparently has a working range of 4cm (ie. the phone is normally placed on top), I'm not sure it will work through the lid. And I'm not sure the magnets would be strong enough if placed on the outside of the lid, or whether they would interfere with the Qi system (I think charging is done via an electromagnetic wave?). For $29 I might get one of these and give it a try.

so are you suggesting I just use the aux input in the centre console and maybe just shorten the wires?

Hard to answer without seeing your set up, but what I currently have is:

Kogan bluetooth device: http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/home-stereo ... oth-audio/
Connected via 3.5mm - 3.5mm stereo cable to AUX input in the centre console.

No wires to tablet, except when to charge.

Bah bloody autocorrect. Already fixed it a few times as well.

Tbh if you're going to usr magnets to stick any device onto the lid then you might as well just plug a charge cable in. My phone isn't Qi charge compatible but its worth you giving it a shot if its only $30. How would I attach your phone using magnets though? You would need to change your case to the one you stuck magnets onto everytine you get it the car wouldn't u?

'benchtesting' before i put it all back together... Messy huh !!

The Bezel installed - Used double sided tape from bunnings, worked a treat. I'll be using silicone to actually hold it all into the Fascia.

Nice job! Is that a 1st gen Nexus 7?

I want to see if anyone has successfully done this with a 2nd Gen as the dimensions are slightly different.

Yeah 1st gen. There's not much point in putting a 2nd gen in - its a waste. the extra specs will do nothing for you used in this kinda way. And I'm a power hungry techie... so for me to say that its kinda trustworthy if i do say so myself.

1st gen you should be able to pick up on gumtree for 120. less every week. just get the 16g. put in a usb hub. want more storage, get a flash drive... imo

Cheers for that. I've already bought the 2nd gen.
I was leaning towards the 1st gen as it's cheaper, accessories are easier to come by and the range is much bigger, and ROMs like Timur's are apparently great.
But the significantly better performance and display resolution of the 2nd gen, plus the wireless charging (which is currently a gimmick, but will be great once the range is increased from 4cm to 4m), was what sold me. Had the 1st gen been able to be upgraded to 2GB RAM I would have gone with that.

So I'm hoping someone has installed a 2nd gen in their car and can advise if the 7" dash kit works.

You have cyanogenmod installed? That's a rom.

How are you flashing? What recovery are you using? If youre using CWM, you should be able to use their ROM manager to flash the rom.
