limitations in tune...the piggy back connection

Postby EXPLICIT » Wed Sep 26, 2007 10:56 am

ok so there's not a great deal of options for the later 2.5T GT's at the moment in regard to tuning. Sure ecutek is soon to be released but im not a fan. Has anyone experimented with piggy back ecu's? Not so much the unichip/xede im more interested in the japanese types. I.e. F con pro or even the E-manage. Seeing as both use harness's to tap into relevant parts of the loom for fueling and timing control. Has anyone used one? or found something that works with the latest inception of ecu from GT? The latest engine is fairly diverse with its twin avcs, electric throttle and the like, so my thinking is keeping the original ecu to take care of all the funny business and only tap into the bits we need.....the engine map.

Yeah, some of the boys here have Haltech.

1700-2K to configure, piggy back, fantastic results and you can take it off and take it to a new car afterwards...

I think Bob had one done in his Liberty..

Advantage of a piggy back unit over reflash of factory ECU? Seems to me that it's a different means to the same end, as you'd be changing the same parameters.. Does the Haltech have any extra functions?

Yes, I had the Haltech fitted and am totally happy with the decision.
The car is just so much better to drive.
I gained 30kw ATW with no other mods.

It has got some extra functions that I haven't done but am planning to.
One of them being water spray control...I beleive you can have it set to spray a mist over the intercooler over a certain rev range or boost...I haven't read too much into it yet.

If your planning on doing any tuning to your car I would recommend Paul from pulse racing. http://www.pulseracing.com.au

Hope this helps.

Is the Haltech an interceptor type unit?

Reason I ask is that a limitation of the interceptor type unit is that you need to compromise the tune because of the Si-Drive ie: may not necessarily get full power out of S# because that tune does not suit S or I modes.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

Yes it is a interceptor.
It was tuned for performance in S# which is where I drive it most the time, but you notice the the improvement in all three modes.

Viriix - What dinner, where at?
I'll see if I can make it so I get to meet you guys.
