Silly question, but have you pulled the MAF appart, and cleaned all the contacts with electrical cleaner (and the element), I doubt that subaru would have done this for you, an error code could me something as little as a poor contact or dry joint, dont have much to loose do ya!

Where abouts are you located?[

Sydney
I have no idea. I am technically incompotent.

Cam anyone help??

Oh, the irony... my car started doing this again! I hope it's the O2 sensor and not the AFM... It's been in at Subaru before for the O2 sensor.

The engine light came on, with cruise flashing - turned the car off then back on, engine light went away but cruise was still flashing. Pressed the cruise button and it stopped flashing - cruise still works fine.

Does that mean it's an intermittent problem?

Turns out it's the AF sensor. Good thing it's covered under parts warranty.

Hi I'm new on this site but it appears that I fall into the same category. My engine light appeared + the crusie light flashing.

Is $700+ to fix the only option to fix my 04 Lib GT (with no Warranty)?.

I'm considering to upgrade my ECU at STI Docklands. Do you reckon that they will bundle it all up to a more attractive price given that they have to remap the ECU? STI charges $800 for an ECU upgrade to increase by 20kw at the wheel.

I have this exact problem with mine. It occurs 90% of the time and is quite annoying...

Does that mean that the 8.0km/L showing on the display is incorrect with the MIL on?

Not sure if you notice but the GT sure knows how to skull down petrol. It consumes as much if not more than my 3.2L station wagon.

Had mine go 3 times, and replaced each time under warranty, with the last being slightly after the warranty period, it helps to keep going to the same dealer/place for your servicing... Each time i got it replaced, i had a 3" turbo back exhaust, and ECUTek, nothing mentioned whatsoever by dealer...

Hi,

I have also had this problem recently where the MIL light comes on and cruise light flashes. I originally called keystar (rothwell) and due to the fact that my car was out of warranty by 1 week they didn't want a bar of it ! lol so I called boxer specialist at brendale, took the car in to diagnose the problem - they pulled the error codes and told me that it was a faulty air fuel ratio sensor and because my car was only out of warranty by 1 week subaru *should* be able to fix the problem under warranty! They kindly took my car to Torque subaru who also had to re run the diagnostics and got the same error code. Although they cleared the error codes from the ecu and took it for a drive and the lights have not come back on? they have told me this can sometimes happen - that something could trigger the error (bad batch of fuel possibly) and the error code will become stuck in the ecu. Can anyone confirm / deny this? lol

Anyway both boxer specialist and torque subaru have been very helpful and provide excellent service! I recommend boxer specialist to anyone on the northside!

*** updated - I have just spoken to Torque subaru again and they have informed me the MIL light and cruise lights have returned! they are going to contact subaru and see if they can replace the air fuel ratio sensor under warranty .. *fingers crossed* ... if subaru turn around and say noo i have to fork out $530!!

hmm seems to be a common problem with the early model gt's...had my CEL light and cruise control flash this morning while driving in to work.

from what i can tell from the research i was doing on legacygt.com that this can sometimes be caused by the fuel cap not being tightened probably after refueling the car...i have just filled up in the past day or so will check this when i get back to the car.

well should tightening the cap not work would resetting the ECU have any benefit at all, i would assume that doing this would be fine if there is nothing major wrong with the car but then should anything major be wrong the CEL light will simply reappear and i will get it checked by subaru in which case its probably an o2 sensor or AFM im guessing?

*woops seek and you shall find http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.p ... =reset+ecu ... just put subaru octane booster in the car and this seems to have caused the faulty AFM / o2. NEVER AGAIN :x

Hi,

Ended up getting the Air Fuel Ratio Sensor replaced by Torque Subaru! They contacted the area manager for Subaru and even though my car was out of warranty by 2 weeks they replaced the part for free! woot

Very happy with the service from Torque Subaru!! :D

Can driving with a faulty air fuel ratio sensor for approx 250ks cause any other problems?
