3.0R B Clutch

Postby motmotmot » Sun Nov 30, 2014 7:42 am

Hey guys,

I just bought a Subaru 2005 Liberty 3.0R B, and i have noticed the friction point for the clutch is quite high,

I was wondering is this normal??

and roughly how much does it cost to replace for the parts and labor?

and any places to recommend in Melbourne??

Cheers

Meaning you dont have to push the clutch pedal in that far? if that is the case mine is the same which is completely normal!

Yeah clutch engages really late, if I have my foot on the brake and start letting the clutch out it will be out further than my right foot before it engagaes

i think it is due for a change though, cause it engages really late, slips and even if i rest my foot on the clutch sometimes it dips in and revs.

My clutch engages about at the very end of me releasing it.

Anyone know any cheap and reputable places in melbourne to do a clutch ??? and how much ??? :O

Mate with a 3.0RB with 6mt has shudder and slip also. He has been quoted around $1600 at M&L.

Subarus seem to have high clutch points (clutch activation is very early in the travel of the pedal) although I only have a sample size of 2 cars, my liberty and an 86/BRZ. First time I drove the 86 I was getting the tyres chirping every gear shift because every other car I've had possessed a low clutch pedal. That said, it shouldn't be slipping from gently resting your foot on it.

There should be a rod behind the clutch pedal that connects it to the clutch master cylinder. It can usually be wound in or out to adjust where in the pedal travel the clutch takes up (it can be tricky to figure out which way to wind it). If it's still slipping after adjustment it's time for a replacement.

When I purchased my Spec B the clutch was very low to the ground, and was often sinking close to the floor in the mornings, which meant I actually had to lift the clutch up with my foot and then press in to engage a gear.

When I put this into Subaru, they claimed that it felt like a Slave Cylinder or Master Cylinder issue and that the clutch was not genuine - I just have 100k on the clock. I mentioned it should have an adjustment but they claimed it did not have anything.

When I rebooked this in to have it looked at when the Service Manager returned from leave or something, it turned out that the clutch had been adjusted too low, and that there was no tension in the spring.

When I received the car back, it was like a new clutch. Quite high up from the floor, just like how a Suby should be. Even the Mechanic said this is how all Subaru's are.

Obviously somebody hasn't liked the high clutch point and has had the clutch adjusted lower to the floor.

If you are thinking about doing this, be careful as mine actually started slipping to the point where I was losing power, and the car smelled like burning clutch.

Yeah, my clutch is very worn it slips a lot and i definitely need a change. It also smells sometimes when it slips too.
But i have driven some other Subarus (impreza etc.) and i have found the cluthc is quite high.

Does anyone know cheap reputable places to do a clutch ?? I've been quoted around 1.5k

Cheers :D
