High idle when aircon running (after upper engine cleaner)?

Postby redeemed » Sun Dec 23, 2012 10:33 pm

I gave my car a dose of Subaru upper engine cleaner 2 weeks ago just before doing my last oil change. Followed all instructions on the can, etc. I took my car for a... uhhh, spirited drive afterwards as well. Hey, just following instructions  by spirited, I mean changing at nearly 6000rpm on 1st and 2nd, and doing that a few times that week. As you do, right?

Now, even after being warmed up and driven for a while, the car idles around 1500-2000rpm when the aircon is on. Super annoying, and probably not helping my economy either.

Not sure if I'm describing this correctly... but when our cars idling with the aircon on under normal circumstances, revs might jump by 2-300rpm every so often under the load. It should drop back to normal revs after a few seconds though. Now with the aircon on, the car idles at 1k rpm if I'm lucky, and jumps to almost 2000 rpm, sitting there for a few seconds. It repeats this cycle a few times a minute. :(

As you all can appreciate given Sydney's weather this weekend, it's been immensely annoying.

Steps taken to rectify the issue: nothing except filling a tank of BP Ultimate (98RON) and then unplugging/plugging the battery terminal. Thought I'd try that just in case the computer learned something wrong from the upper engine cleaner additive.

Any clues? :?:

What hole did you spray it in? The upper engine cleaner might stopping one of your sensors working 100%.

I pulled out a vacuum hose that goes to the intake, and sprayed the UEBC in there. I've always done it through there, about 3 or 4 times since getting the car. Edit: except for once, when I removed the air filter/box and sprayed directly into the throttle.
