So my lib has been ponging of burnt oil, it was driving me nuts!
I inspected the underside of the engine as the oil on the under cover revealed its the drivers side at issue.
Cleaned off all the oil off the block and header heat shields.
According to my local mechanic, the source can only be the cam cover or timing cover...
Timing cover was ok so I went for the cam cover seal replacement.
This took me about 4 hours on a hoist, but would go quicker with some shaved sockets and a gear drive ratchet.
Didn't do the 1/2 moons as they were fine & not leaking.
Still a bit smelly so I reinspected, some oil around the rack and front of the box so I nipped up the affected lower ps hose coupling and wiped, degreased and rinsed the area, all good now but will keep an eye on the area.
However I found the box's oil level was below the low mark, topped it up with some spare Syntrax, so the issue is related and will be sorted on clutch replacement. The clutch is almost gone, no chance of hectic acceleration in 4, 5 or 6.
Of course one of the head breather hoses cracked, meaning I have another inlet leak, so I'm tossing up going OEM via partsouq or just using gates heater hose, either way the TMIC has to come off, assuming an rtv and silicone tape repair job won't suffice.
I've started Cert III light automotive at Baxter Southbank, meaning I get up to 2.5 days per week of hoist time if available.
Under Baxters aegis I hope to complete all my basic mods, timing belt service and clutch replacement etc.
Very cool and everyone is much in awe of my rather modified (in some aspects) ride

They're all servicing stocko toyotas and holdens so my lib is a standout.
Alas I cannot do advanced stuff there like rebuilding my spare block, e30 diff or do engine swaps, so I'll revert to my local garage or specialists if the opportunity arises.
They have a lot of equipment, eg tyre changer & balance station, parts washers, diagnostic scope and most importantly for the Ljet E30, an exhaust gas analyser.
The Baur has an uneven idle, so planning replacing/refurbish injectors and leads, then set the idle and mixture using the analyser, should be fun.
I also raised my rear shocks 5mm for no more tuck, and I'm bringing the camber back closer to stock, whilst re-rolling my guards, to save my delicious new S001's bought on the Bridgestone/Donellans 3for4 deal: $680 for 235 40 r18

They're much quieter than the Pzero Corsas, and I'd guess might have a wee bit less grip, but still a better choice overall for a daily. I'm using string alignment and an inclinometer phone app to get everything in order before getting it laser aligned.
