Probably because no one has done an oil analysis, or used their aftermarket filter long enough to notice any detriment. Either that or they just don't care because they won't keep their car for long.

Also there are quite a few threads on NASIOC forums about aftermarket filters and high Silica counts in oil analysis.

The chaps on Bobistheoilguy call them "rock catchers". Still waiting for someone to tell me why go panel filter, apart from the washable bit. If they increased performance, then maybe I'd change to one at risk of increasing grit intake, but no one thinks they do, so why?
