Bike Racks

Postby lukey » Mon Nov 09, 2009 6:33 pm

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place but, does anyone have an idea of how much bike roof racks cost for the 4GEN Libertys?

Does the roof racks have the capability to hold bikes or are they separate accessories?

Are they easy to bolt on/off, and are there third party brands that anyone can recommend or are they only available from Subaru?

Thanks!

I got my racks from roof rack city. Service was fantastic and prices pretty much on par or better than the rest. With Thule you have to buy the bike holder as an added extra. They are not cheap but extremely well made. I've got Thule racks with Thule kayak carriers, I recall seeing the bike holder on the roof rack city site and they had one in store as well.

I honestly think you are better off with a tow hitch mounted rack. My gen 4 came with Rhino racks all ready on it, but my bike's axle wasn't compatible with the quick release stile mound for the front forks. Bought an Allen hitch mount and it rocks. Can easily take 3 "freeride" bikes without having to undo through axles. Much less hassle than lifting bikes onto the roof and no need to worry about driving into your garage or tress or some thing with bikes on the roof.

Something to think about.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

Check out the Q-Spear rack. I've used this with 4 'downhill' bike on it and it worked a treat and had now problem with the weight.

Here's mine mate:

Roof mounted with wide bars (Thule) to fit surf ski's along with bikes. Also has the full bike carriers on the bars (I didn't like the idea of putting a grubby front wheel in the car!).

(Old pics!!)

Personally i never needed one, always fitted in the back nice and comfy. Most of the guys i ride with are using Thule. Another popular one is the Grip Sport racks, http://gripsport.com.au/

But Andy you dont care about your car rofl :P, Mr i want to keep it stock ;). Tow bars shouldnt cost all that much. Mine came with the car so i dont have to spend money on a tow bar for the trailer when im hauling the dirtcycle.

Maybe put a thing in the wanted to buy section? Im sure someone on the forum has a tow bar they no longer want/need

Hey Luke, I was shopping around today for a set of roof racks and a bike carrier. I'm opting for the Rola Racks (cross bars) for my MY07 Liberty Sedan.

I called Subie Australia and was told they no longer do the Rola style and have none left in stock, they now only supply the Thule style ones.

Anyways, I contacted Repco and they can get me the Rola Racks ($300) and the bike carrier ($100) - the one where you take off the front wheel and clamp your bike fork to it.

I'm still looking for a better price though... but will be making a decision by the end of the week.

That's awesome everyone, thanks heaps for your advice.

WhiteGTB, $400 doesn't sound too bad and I've got quick release so that would suit me great. Can you let me know how you end up going? I'm sure Repco will have a 20% off storewide around Chrissy, so that might be an idea :D

I just bought some Subaru roof racks off eBay...

And about to source a Thule bike rack (QR fork mount ones) to go together with it.

Roof racks - $125 delivered (I believe the guy has a few of them - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :MEWAX:VRI)
Thule bike rack - $200 (new)

If anyone is interested in the Thule bike racks, let me know... might be able to get some at a discounted rate...
