Smash/Dent/Scratch repairers in Perth

Postby dwayne » Wed Jan 07, 2009 1:42 pm

Hi all,

will post photos later, but basically on 30/12 my Lib was subject of a smash and grab @ Galleria Shopping Ctr in Morley, WA. I had just dropped in there to grab some lunch.

Smash and grab was for my SatNav and bluetooth car kit. Drivers window was smashed, Subaru Genuine Alarm did NOT go off (no extra chirps when returning to car and disarming). No doors were opened - as a matter of fact my radar detector which was in the middle of the dash was not even touched. Satnav and carkit display screen were right next to drivers window.

The door seal is destroyed from whatever implement was used to lever/smash the window out, the centre plate between front and rear windows is slightly nicked, both front and rear doors have lots of scratches and a number of chips from glass shards (presumably whilst they lent into the car), and front guard has a ding in it from something (probably whatever they used for the window).

So now I'm chasing repairs, and I want damn good quality ones - too many horror stories around. My insurance company has told me I can use whomever I like - I've had T & R Prestige recommended to me, however they're booked until late February. Any other recommendations?

Incidentally, if anyone else needs their drivers window replaced, do not use an aftermarket window - they tried fitting one to mine and it slips on the track going both up and down, so it's being replaced with a genuine Subaru one.

Rgds

Sorry to hear about your incident dwayne. Sucks that other people have to steal your stuff, and on top of that damage your Liberty in the process. Arg! I wish I could catch people in the act just so I can kick their head in.

But did you upgrade the factory alarm at all? Because the standard factory alarm that comes with the car will only go off when the door or boot is opened. It does not have a motion or sound sensor which detects a smashing window, impact, or raising of the car. Thieves probably knew this and smashed the window to get to your gear. As long as they don't open the door, the alarm will not go off..

name is escaping me, but there is a place in North Perth (just up from Graham Farmer.. they are very very good!

Best bet though is to go to Osborne Park and have a drive around, stick your head in and ask to have a look at some of their work.. even though its a small job, most shops wont mind..

Just because a shop was good a year ago doesn't mean it will be now!

Thanks for the sympathy Jim

I asked for the Subaru Alarm to be installed when I purchased the car at the dealers, and requested this:

Is that the upgraded model you're talking about ?

Bloody hell dude thats horrible, why do people have to be that low down and basically skum to steal someone else's stuff which they earned with their cash taking them time, bloody stupid.

Good luck with your search for a good Repairer

I think there's a model one up from that one. When I asked for the same alarm upgrade, I got a bill for something like $750. When I asked why it was so different from the price on the Accessory website, the dealer told me that upgrade was useless, and put in the next one up instead.

But yeah, the link you gave did list infrasonic sensors which should pick up the noise a smashing window makes, so the alarm should have gone off. Unless they used like a window punch.

Benson is well known to most of us members at perth-wrx and anti-lag and his work is very well respected and reasonably priced. I have not used him but I know plenty of cars that have.

West Perth Panel and Paint is a company I have used and their work is first class but the problem is their lead time may mean you have to wait a significant time before they can get to you.

Sorry to hear your story mate.

If it happened to me Id be on the ground in the fetal position crying like a baby.

I never, ever leave my gps in the car unattended. Even the wiring and suction mount gets taken out.
