My New Alpine Double Din DVD Setup

Postby gumbyy » Mon Nov 26, 2007 1:45 pm

Hi Guys,

Check out my new toys:
-RHD Legacy, Outback Double DIN AV Panel
-Alpine IVA-W202E CD/DVD/MP3 d/din HU
-Alpine KCE-300T Bluetooth Kit
-Powertech 400W Inverter

Soon to be added:
-Mediagate MG-25, 150GB HD
-Maybe steering wheel audio controls..

I had the Liberty GT Premium pack with the 13 speaker McIntosh stereo. Loved the sound quality for a stock HU but didn't like the non-MP3 playback. Here is what it looked like before:

And after:

Here is where I put the inverter:

Here is where I fed the RCA female cables for my Mediagate:

The damn Mediagate was DOA so am now eagerly awaiting a replacement unit. For those of you who don't know what a Mediagate is, have a look here:
MG350HD
MG35
MG25

I chose the MG25 due to its small size and portability.

Overall I'm not happy that the fascia plate thing is a different colour to my McIntosh one.. As you can see, one is black the other is grey.. I'm also not that thrilled about how much the HU is sticking/protruding outwards.. You can't really tell from the photos but yeah.. I was told it couldn't sit any more flush as it would affect the opening/closing mechanism so what can ya do.. The Alpine unit is freakin awesome, my only gripe with that is my mobile phone isn't fully compatible so I can't upload my phonebook on the HU! Maybe I see a new phone in the future perhaps?

If you're thinking of doing the same thing, feel free to ask me questions!

Btw, I got this installed by a professional Audio Installer as I didn't trust myself

So what do you think?

Nice work, in total how many hours did it take you?

Yeah I agree with the grey face vs the shiny black one... could you have painted it or something like that?

At least the heater controls panel was also changed, so it doesn't mismatch

hey - your info panel shows litres per hundred kilometres - mine shows kilometres per litre - why is that? What year is your car?

I wonder if it's possible to swap the panels over so I get a more, err, recognised statistic... or whether it takes data from another electronic computer stored elsewhere...

Awesome man!

Nice install. My bro's getting the MG350HD mediagate for his apartment. Pretty cool device. Like a minicomputer.

Didnt know they were compatable with the car units. How much it end up costing? PM me if you arent comfortable posting here.

Mine's MY06, and it shows L/100km.
I saw something on legacygt.com once about holding the DISP button in for X seconds to switch the US displays between the two formats. Give it a go! :D
(Although that may have been between Celsius and Farenheit, my memory slips a bit sometimes ;))

Ric - thanks, I'll give it a go.

Did you still want to come over and try to hassle my Macintosh? If so - let's try changing that panel over to see if it works :D

Well the install took about 4 hours from drop off to pick up. Yeah I was afraid of painting it in case it turned out shit lol :( does it look that bad?

kaycy wrote:That looks good man, where's you McIntosh? Are you selling it?

My McIntosh is sitting on the floor lol I'm going to keep it stored away for when I sell my car (if ever) so I can take the Alpine out and restore it to factory conditions.

Km/L? hmm thats strange? mines an MY05.. I would maybe ask a dealership about that one, probably just need to change a setting or something?

Yeah the MG350HD is a cool little machine, running wireless would be neato. Well you're pretty much able to use it with anything that has RCA inputs and an adequate power supply so car shouldn't be a problem.. Fingers crossed the MG works ok in the car though.. Hopefully I get it back soon.

All up, everything costed $2K incl. installation.

Don't tell me that! hahaha If that's true I'm gonna cry lol :? My GF's been saying the new fascia matches the inside door handles so the colours are all contrasted etc. i think shes just being nice.. lol i have a feeling its severely mismatched but I will get over it soon lol..

I think this new fascia I got would match the non-Premium pack Liberties though..! :(
