A few problems with MY05 liberty

Postby Ibisedge » Tue Sep 20, 2011 11:25 am

Hey all, first post on the forum.
I'm Grant, 25 from Wollongong nsw
I drive a 2004 MY05 Liberty Wagon, 2L manual
I am pretty sure it's just the standard model

Anyways:
I have a few small problems with the car that are starting to annoy me, and I don't want to resort to my usual option-selling it.
1) the AC has the rotary controls, there is a steal wire cable that attaches to the back of the AC control unit and then runs to the hot/cold vents on the car. The white plastic actuating connection has broken and now my car is whiteout a heater. Fine for summer, not so great for cold winter mornings. Now a) where does it actually attach to the car? The white plastic connection I mean, ad I can't locate it easily an if I know what direction I am looking for it would be great, and b) what is the white plastic called? So I can order it from a wreckers/Subaru

2) the drivers seat is extremely uncomfortable. Any more than an hour long trip and my back and butt is hating me. Are there any other standard Subaru seats that will bolt straight in?

3) there is a whining noise coming from the power steering pump or water pump, can't really remember what the mechanic told me. It kind of sounds like a super charger. Any easy way to locate the noise?

4) there is also a whistle noise that you can hear at idle and on take off that I thought may have been a fan belt or something but the mechanic said he thought it was a tiny air leak from the cat, hopefully I will be getting a new Midpipe soon to fix this one.

I think this is all for now. If I remember anything else I am sure to post it.
Thanks in advance

hi grant, 2)yes,you will find majority of subaru seats are interchangeble all the way back to a gen 1-threw to a my 07 wrx-09 forrester, but the airbag plug and electronic plugs may differ.
3)sounds like your steering pump is tired, common practice on a EJ.nothing major really, then again it (MIGHT) be a noisy bearing in the altenator?
4)the whistle you say, does it increase in noise with revs? if so may be a whining bearing?or a few other possibilities ? need a little more info on that one.

hope that helps a little?
thanks,steve.
