new engine. UPDATED

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

new engine. UPDATED

well looks like i could be up for a new motor...

its managed to go thru over 2 ltrs in a week, and without and warning lights, and or signs, it decided to seize up on me. Mind you i was over and hour away from home, on my way down to the track day with the guys.

Much to my embaressment, i got a ride down to the servo to get a towy out to pick me up, over an hour later im on my way back home.

$300 bucks later, the car has been dropped off at subaru for assessment. I went in and asked the chick behind the counter, how soon i could get it in, she said normally tuesday, but for a "tow in" apparently i get some priority.

I explained to her, that it only had oil put in it last weekend, and it was well above half.. i said that i had no oil warning light inside the car, no smoke from the zaust, and no other signs, other than the fact my car stopped dead on the side of the road, and refused to restart.

Thanks to franky, webby and rosso, who helped me out and did what they could.

SO waiting to hear back from subaru ( who no doubt will say its my fault ) i know admittedly to a degree it is, but car that has not in the past, go thru half a tank of oil in a standard driving week, ie driving to and from work like i do every day. and no show any warning signs till it dies!

Either way im not liking it, and am not looking forward to the weeks ahead.

well basically i was driving and it started making funny noises.. it went from driving fine, to just stopping dead within a matter of about 300 meters.

I though cause it wouldnt start, i thought battery or something, but it is low yet fine... Checked the dipstick, yeah not pretty.. and the gimaces on everyone else face told me that she had run dry, and just seized up..

now i know im not the most mechanically engineered bloke in the world, but i know to check things like oil, water, tyre pressure, ect... im not that hopeless..

i guess i would be to blame for the fact there is now a car sitting at the subaru work shop, bone dry.. they are autoamtically going to assume, neglect...

and without proof, i dont have much of a leg to stand on

Hmmm, nasty business :(
Let's hope they find a reason why it ran dry, you wouldn't want to replace the bearings and have it happen again!

they have done all but one of the services, its sitting on about 972?? and the sticker says it was due at 97.

its always had its service done, and ive never had a real oil issue before.. i know it goes thru it, but not this much in such a short period of time..

That's weird that you didn't get any warning lights to tell you that the oil was low. Hope it's not too expensive to fix. :(

Ummm I had a similar situation, would be interested in what Subaru say though and then move from there...

Mine was not under warranty...
Made pinging noises just before it died on me...
Had my big end bearing replaced by Subaru... (short engine)

Keep us informed mate, if we can help with anything at all, just holla!

just a bit of an update for you guys... yeah well there isnt any... i have spoken to subaru both yesterday and today (tuesday) and they cant tell me anything, YEsterday i just got told that it was "started" and that was about all they could give me..

If anything, just wanted to say thanks to all the guys that have been helping me out via msn.. making suggestion on how i can deal with things, what im entitled to do and to not give in and let them blame me for something i know is not my fault..

doesnt stop me crying myself to sleep of a night tho.. ha ha ha
