If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

ECU Tuned for $2k.... worth it?

Postby WhiteGTB » Sun Aug 26, 2007 11:27 am

Heya guys, my mate has a Black 07 GT STi... beautiful car, trying to get him to join this forum..

Anyways.. he paid and visit to M R T and now swears black and blue by them, he had a lag/hesitation when he went pedal to the metal, but now this is completely gone. He is loving it.

He showed me the dyno's too and at the wheel.. an extra 10kW... damn.. before and after..

So yeah, do you think it is worth it? Do they do this mod anywhere else?
Also... was it only the ECU that makes such a difference?

Any feedback/experience would be good :)

Well.. MRT screwed me and farked up my car at the same time.

Where do you think my rough idle came from?? after they fit a custom MRT CAI into my car.

Guess people are allowed to have there own opinion...

I had my previous car (Liberty B4) ECUTek'd by MRT. I was happy with the result. The B4 is very poorly tuned out of hte Subaru factory though.

BUT, i think MRT/ECUTek are overpriced, and there are other tuners out there (using different aftermarket ECU options) that are cheaper and can do just as good a job. $2K is a shitload to pay for some software and a tune (may not even have been a custom tune for the car).
Black MY05 Liberty GT. Sti front lip, STi rear spoiler.
Hi-Tech Turbo-back exhaust (with quad tips). HKS Panel filter. Resonatorectomy. SprintBooster fitted.
35mm lower on Pedders Sports Ryder springs. Whiteline rear sway bar. 19" ROH Modenas.

I got the $2K tune..was it good? Yeah it made a difference but is worth $2K..that I'm not sure about that. But as I've said before you know what your getting with MRT e.g. clean workshop, relatively experienced guys and they do say that they will cover factory warranty on their mods, how hard it is for them to fix something that is their fault I don't know. When I had my clutch which I got from them break they sorted it out free of charge. In the end it's totally your decision so take your time but I think get the mod regardless of who you choose in the end.

Good luck :pleasantry:

I have had my car tuned (Not MRT) and am happy to discuss what I did and the result if you would like to PM me.

I did the research and could not justify the cost or the results from some of the offerings discussed. If you are going to tune your car, have it customed tuned for the best result. I have had many cars tuned, both race and road and never have I ever come across a tuner charging the short of money that you are referring to that charges extra to dyno the car.

Who cares what the DYNO reads so long as your car feels better to drive and is more responsive
