MY05 - Safety Pack - Setup (Wires, Sizes, Panel???)

Postby tzortst » Mon Oct 05, 2009 9:08 am

Just purchased a MY05 Safety Pack, Love the car now to spend some coin on the audio...

First question where am I better ordering the panel from? avojdm or japanparts? I've looked on japanparts and got a headache with how many options there were... Is someone able to link me to the correct page on japanparts? I don't want the black panel, not sure if japanparts have the silver/grey

What size are all the speakers?

Also are there any wireing diagrams? Is the antenna wire standard or do you need a convertor?

Also what sort of prices would I be looking at for a full install (HU, Splits, Sub, Amp etc)? Might consider paying someone else if it isn't to much. Are the door panels, av panel etc hard to get off? How easy is laying the cables to the boot.

Want to plan this out to the T before I start pulling panels offs!

I've attached an image of the panel stole from MedNez :)

Search is your friend, there are many threads that cover the topics you have raised :). If I wasn't at work right now I would link you to the specific threads!

I've searched heaps, unless I am blind I can't find the information I need...

I've read lots about people ordering from japanparts and reciving the black planels, which is why I want to confirm here before handing over the $$$

Sorry if this stuff has been asked, but I have read through heaps of threads and this is the stuff I am unsure of.

For the front speakers i got 6 inch components and 6 inch 3ways for the rear. When i installed mine i actually modified the existing speaker mounts to fit the kickers and they worked fine. Otherwise you could make up new mounts from wood but whats the point. The only prob with me altering the existing mounts was that i wrecked the OEM speakers. Are ya deff set on getting a AV set and installing an aftermarket radio? Coz an alternative is to wire a Line Output Converter to the existing radio and run an amp from that.

cheers

Also, are there any Wiring Harness? Or is it a matter of cutting the wires and soldering them? Rather user a harness

@teK-- Cheers, those workshop mannuals are great :) Still a bit confused over which specific model I am getting, Any idea on how much postage from avoJDM is?

@wassell2381 I want whole new HU, something with bluetooth, gps etc.

Not sure if there is a harness I always just cut off the old plug (leaving ample wire in the plug of course), and soldering on the new head unit's plugs. Cheapest and most effective way of doing it!

Not sure re AVOJDM postage I bought from Japanparts and it wasn't much, about $30 or thereabouts.

Orders the AV panel from avojdm, was a bit cheaper then japanparts! Not to pick a head unit.

Will 6.5" Speakers fit? I have some Hertz KSK 165 That I would like to keep otherwise will have to sell them :| and get something smaller

6.5s fit great in the front. HSK165 are awesome speakers I had a set in my old car until I blew them but that was after 5 years of hard use. You will need to make custom baffles as per usual.

How much price difference? (saves me from checking :D)

Also headunit, I recommend Eclipse AVN726EA. Runs iGo navigation software, has all features, is a good value for money unit too (can pick one up for ~$1200). Sadly it's not made in Japan like the AVN6000 though :( I miss my AVN6000.

Oh well. When I get a facia I can put the AVN726EA in. It's been sitting in my cupboard for about two weeks already.

Was looking at the AVN726EA but it is closer to $2000 and I don't think it supports iphone 3G/3GS

Think I am going to get a Pioneer AVIC-F310BT which has all the features I want, only thing is the screen might be a bit small, but its only $900

Japanparts is $341 USD
avojdm is $327 USD

Postage is around $30 for both

Plus on japanparts I think they only have black.

Japanparts have silver, that is where I bought mine. It is the A-C applied model version.
