Aftermarket headunit: Remove Mcintosh, or use cubby area?

Postby tangcla » Wed Sep 30, 2009 4:38 pm

So the next stage of audio upgrade, is whether I should:
* Remove the Mcintosh headunit and place my headunit there:
* Keep the Mcintosh in the centre console, and add the headunit between the aircon vents (a la factory satnav)

If anyone has photos of their installs, please do share, photos would really help my decisionmaking.
In particular, if you've used the upper double DIN mounts, how does that affect glare?

No issues with glare. I wanted to keep the factory look so the unit runs through the aux-in on the macintosh.

Now you're making me re-think the headunit install in the Mcintosh position... :( wonder how Aux-in works for a pre-facelift Mcintosh?

I'm thinking of at some stage installing an Alpine media controller. (Basically a head unit that has no CD player mechanism, and only controls an ipod or usb drive). I get sick of having to change CDs all the time :)

Neat job pips. Did you have to cut the plastic to fit it?? i.e. is the install reversible?

I'm pretty sure Clarence's McIntosh doesn't have Aux-in. That's only available from MY07 on.

I'm thinking that there might be aux-in in the way that the satnav interfaces with the Mcintosh (i.e. through the spare harness conector).

Replace Mac head unit with screen :D

Leave cubby & fill with gauges :D

That gets my vote :D

I'm leaning towards a screen up top.

For those who did the screen up top (looking at you pips06) what part number was required, and did you need to modify it to fit? It seems there are two part numbers, H0017AG915 and H0017AG932.

Intrested in doing the same as pips.
Need as much information as possible aswell as pics on the install.
Also if it can be done for a pre face lift model liberty.

Definitely can be done on pre-facelift Liberty. Mark my words.
