Scraping issue

Postby talev788 » Tue Sep 01, 2009 10:45 am

I just recently had 18 inch wheels with low profiles put on my car
The car hasn't been lowered, but when i have at least 2 people in the back seat or 1 fat person in the back seat the wheels scrape like hell!!!!!

is there a way i can fix this issue?

Pending the offset of the wheels and the tyre size, I'd suggest you probably need to roll the rear guards. Generally around $50 per corner.

+1. If you haven't even lowered yet you are probably being over optimistic with your wheel /tyre width and offset.

If the offset is less than + 50 you will need to roll the lip on the rear guards. + 55 you do not. I run +55 and have not problem

You've just told me the wheel size. I asked for the exact tyre sizes. e.g. 215/45R18

205/50/16 => 611.4mm diameter
215/35/18 => 607.7mm diameter

So you've actually gone 0.6% smaller. See http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

OK Just looked up the Osaka Vertec wheels, and the 18x7.5 size is listed as follows:
18x7.5 5/100, 5/108, 5/114.3 35mm - 45mm MATT BLACK

SO I'd say you have 18x7.5 with a 45mm offset. This sounds like it may be a bit to agressive for a Gen III, so Rolling the guards is probably going to be the only way you can fix this.

What width tyre are you running?

Yeah i know, ive used that site before.

Ideally id like 225/35/18 but 215s are cheaper and easier to get
