Re: MY07 Sedan Sound Deadening review (w/o stereo upgrade)

I've just recently done the sound deadening (MY07 Liberty 3.0RB)... and had great results... I used the JayCar sound deadening material, which is basically bitumen adhesive. My hands are very sore now... but well worth the task - which took about 3-4 hours to complete.

I had done this on my previous car and previous previous car (MY04 Liberty GT & MY00 Liberty B4 RSK), all with slightly different setups.

MY07 - Did the outer door skins (F & R) and the closed up all the holes on the inner door skin. Also, reapplied the stock door skin more "tightly" to the door itself for a better seal.
MY04 - Only did the major holes on the inner door skin, both F & R
MY00 - Did the COMPLETE car... whole floor panel (all seats removed), rear parcel shelf, trunk/boot and inner door skins

I have done this, not so much for the audio improvements, but more so for reduced road noise. This is my first experimentation with doing the outer door skins, which I have been quite impressed with.

The door now closes with a great "thud" that you would find in very expensive European cars and when you go and tap the door skin, it no longer feels tinny...

In terms of road noise, I have lost a lot of wind noise and a bit of tyre noise at speeds... when the car is a stand still, there is an eerie silence in the car (engine on or off... the H6 seems to help as it is such a smooth and quiet motor as oppose to the GT and B4), as it seems block out any outdoor environment noises.

Generally noise is lower and it feels like the cabin is more "cocooned" from the outside environment.

In terms of audio controls, my setting use to be: Treble +5, Mid +1, Bass +2
Now they are: Treble +4, Mid +1, Bass 0 (sometimes -1)

I'm quite fussy with my audio output and always seem to change volume and sound settings. Seems to happen less now since the change... sometimes I even drive without music, just to enjoy the quietness of the car now :)

Anyway, highly recommend this to anyone...!

In terms of what I've learned in doing all 3 cars:

MY07 - probably had the best reduction in noise. After doing some research, people have pointed out that the outer door skin do let in a lot of road noise as I've seen in doing the door skins.
MY04 - The least effective in terms of eliminating road noise. Improved audio quality, it concealed the door.
MY00 - spend almost a whole day in doing this, and was very happy with the results at the time. It gives the car an overall solid feel, eliminates any squeaks you may have. The car is also warmer for longer during the winter and cooler for longer in the summer. Road noise is greatly reduced, but a lot of work is required to do this!
