Hanabi LED Tail lights for wagon (PICS ADDED)

Postby ThirstyAs » Thu Jul 16, 2009 1:54 pm

I ordered some LED tail lights for my wagon off ebay. They are smoked red tint hanabi style LED. I dont know if they original or copies but guys they look perfect I reckon. They only took 15mins to fit (Less if i wasnt taking photos which I'll post up a step thru later today) and the reason I dont know if they genuine or copies is they were only $300 including post - ive been looking for them and could only find $450 US and somewhere in europe which worked out to be $850 AUD by the time they get here.
Only thing during installation is making sure the plug for the LED's is inserted up the right way into the old bulb holder, If u put in one way they wont work, rotate plug 180 deg and re insert and they work perfectly. Ive got photos of the plugs etc so you can see whats involved (1.5/5 difficulty) but just flew in home and have to shoot off and see my sis and her new baby. So will post up the pics tonight. I wouldnt say it transforms the rear end, just makes it what it should have been factory. And the smoked red matches the black alot better. Just have to get a setof those mirrored indicator bulbs cos the indicators still chrome/clear.

You mean these from this eBay auction?

Err, I highly doubt they are genuine Habani. But cheap HKS (Hong Kong Special) knock-offs or not, they are a bargain! Should look good! Can't wait for pics! :D

I got mine from Jimmy @ HKC-Speed.com, mine are "Screate" and set me back about close to $400 (delivered) when I got them. The Hanabi one's more more on top of that but hey, if they fit and work and you are happy with them then as said, they are a bargain. Get some pics up - stuff the family ! LOL !!

I highly doubt they will be 100% genuine (If it's the same product Arith posted). Like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

In saying that, it doesn't mean it's going to be a bad product. Look at all the Civics & Lancers that are getting around with whited out tail lights :D

Well im back from seeing my sisters newborn girl and both are fine.
Yeah they are the cheapies Arith has posted, but they arent too bad at all... they look bloody good actually out in the sunlight fitted on the car, but unfortunately today the sun aint playing the game long enough to crank out the good camera, and some of the pics off my phone are average at best (it supposed to be 5.0 megapixel), and thats taken inside the garage... but theyre uploading to photbucket as I type, and will be posted here in a few minutes.
Yeah even though they are the ones from Mars Perfomance on ebay... the instalation as mentioned above was straight forward. I guess the biggest question mark over them then is how long the LEDs will last.

Here we go, sorry bout the crap quality, only realised now i have a big smudge in the lens.
First we got the new and old...
Image

Then I took some photos of pulling out the old but its simple. Open boot and on the black trim on the side of the tail light where the boot closes, undo the 2 plastic clip screw thingees, i needed long nose pliers to pull the top ones out, then put a cloth over the tip of a flat head screw driver and just gently prize apart the trim from the side of the light, it will pop out and then pull it out. It then exposes 2 metal screws that retain the light assembly. Once theyre undone, then sort of palm the outside of the light and pull it back out of its 2 locating lugs. Unscrew the bulb fittings and your done. When fitting these LEDs then just pull out the tail/stop bulb from its holder as these tail lights have a plug wired to them to go into the factory bulb holder.
Image
This is where the old tail/stop bulb was. The LED harness plugs straight into this, then screws into the back of the new light assembly the same as if you were mounting a bulb
Image
Just check by turning on your park lights when you plug them in, if you don't see anything, pull plug apart, rotate 180deg and re insert and should be fine
Image
Custom test stand not included so you can check the difference between off/tails/stop. Yes they are definately bright enough. Alternatively you can jam something between front of drivers seat and brake pedal if you dont have access to a custom stand this elaborate
Image
Mounting is reverse of removal obviously and this is the finished result.
Tails
Image
Stopping
Image
And finally a real crappy shot comparing the colour, you notice it most in the surrounds of the light, and stays dark in sunlight blending in a whole lot better on a black car. Need to get some of those mirrored globes though for indicators, or are there LEDs to plug into those too?
Image

So im happy with my hong kong specials, they really look top notch, and i didnt have to split my light open to do the tinting and wait for it to dry (dig at sedan owners) Honestly once you sus out what your going to do undoing which screws etc, all up you'll knock this over in 15 minutes. Rated 1.5 out of 5 difficulty. The .5 cos you need to check if they work, if not, undo light harness and turn over re insert.

Cheers in advance, thanks for looking
Craig

True!!!! REAL Subaru Weather

Heres a few more... you can see in this first one how its got the groove in the light to match contour of bootlid. Doesnt look that cheap. I dont think i have any pics of them off, except the one side by side new and old.

:?: :?: LOL! How is this any different than to a sedan with a light tint to the taillights with LED bulbs, which you're opposed to? :D

lol, read my comments jim, i am not 'opposed' just 'undecided' ..... haha

and LEDs never came into the equation.... so now that you mention it, i guess it is the same effect... but how do the sedan tail light LEDs work? is there just one single lonely bulb there?

I was rummaging through my garage and found a whole box full of spares of this and that, and was about to put them up for sale to make more room.
