AMauto Dump & CAI

Postby 50BIE » Tue Jul 14, 2009 10:05 am

Had AMauto make a dump pipe and a CAI for my 04 GT Wagon yesterday 13-07-09, it nows seems alot more lively and louder but only as the loud pedal is mashed and the rev's rise....has a bit of a raspy note to it now under acceleration....not as good as a boxer rumble but it'll do

Ok, just a quick rundown on AMAuto for you guys that have never heard of them before, made up of Al and Miles both (hence the AM bit) best mates that did their apprenticeship on Subaru's way back in the Liberty RS days. These guys are absolute guns with all things performance and in particular Subaru, Miles built my old Gen Series 2 wagon years ago, then as AMAuto it was refreshed a couple of years later. You can see alot of heir work on their web page and on my intro thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5513....anyway have a look at their website to see the quality of their work for yourselves http://www.amauto.com.au/

take note of the factory dump with cat, look at how fine the mesh is inside, it is any wonder any gas flowed through it at all, no wonder they say the easiest and best bang for buck performance for the Gen4's is to do Dump/CAI then upgrade top mount or better still go for a FMIC

here's some pic's

ran out of stainless for the intake, so we'll fix that up another day...maybe

That's a nice piece of kit. I've seen Al's work over time and it's always top notch. How much does one of these [dump pipes] set you back?

quite like the plate idea. Would suit the NSW regs as well. Only problem is you now have a little bliing in the engine bay begging for more

Very neat CAI set up you've got there :D

I think you next mod should be to spray that puppy black or something a little less obvious :D

Looking great Steve.
I'm like you mate, getting things together and installed for the end of the month tune.
I got my centre pipe installed today and my dump fabricated and tack welded.
It will be finished off tomorrow and then be sent out for ceramic coating. Hope to get it installed next Wednesday.

Cheers,
Rusty.

CAI cost me $350 total, and the piece of shitty alloy will be replaced with some stainless next time I go visit the workshop.
Dump was $650 which $220 of that was the price of the Cat alone. AM have another couple of the flange plates available if anyone else is interested.

Thinking of painting the alloy plate black to blend in with the body work, the intake pipe because it's stainless will be keep for the bling factor :) so it may have to have some company under the bonnet with a few enhancements that are yet to be decided.

Rusty, yes I think their is a few of us trying to get mods installed before the tune, keeps us all happy though! Be interesting to see what sort of gains we will acheive out of fairly stock cars. Interested in seeing that boost guage pod in the flesh, found my boost guage and the A pilar mount but it really doesn't suit the Gen4 so I may buy one like yours. Dropped into Autobarn and they had nothing of great interest on the shelf. I'll check your out when I come pick up the stickers when they arrive.

Also had some carpark dints fixed today so the bodywork looks like new again, just need a good detailer to get it cut n polished.....no I'm going to attempt a black car myself (any recomendaions?)

Nice work, but that's to be expected by Al. Good to see he's doing the newer gen's now as well as the old RS's.

Looks neat.

As you've said, color up the plate and leave the S/S - should look great! Well done.

DJC, good to see you upgraded to a Gen4 too, they'll turn their hands at anything automotive for the right coin :)
Miles and Al both have had experience with servicing Gen4's when they were at Crick's Miles as a service manager and Al in the workshop.
It's just that none of their customers have had a Gen4 for them to play with until now.

Hey Steve, are you looking at getting a new top mount before the tune?

Good to see you've remedied that. :)

Yeah i couldn't leave the family. I'd say we'll see a few of the RS's boys heading this way over the years. :D

Rusty, no mate no plans for a TMIC upgrade, if I were going to spend that amount of coin I'd prefer to put some more money in and go with a FMIC :)

DJC, yes natural progression as the old RS's are getting close to 20 years old now, I see there is about 6 old members that have Gen4's now. The boys at AM can play with my car as my needs require, but this one is staying pretty stocko we love the comfort and power even though we do miss the old wagon....but I'll mos likely keep my licence with this car
