[Q?] Bang For Buck Tyre?

I have been MIA for a little while due to me loosing my licence,
and looking at car porn is the least i want to do because i'm really missing my liberty ..

Anyway..
While i was cleaning the lib, since its the only thing i can do now..
i noticed i'm in need of some new tyres soon.

So what kinda tyres are the go to wrap around spec b wheels?
in terms of:

- Bang For Buck
- Performance
- Aesthetics
- Quality
- Ride Comfort
- Good Life Expectancy

Budget is $200 or under a corner..

Any help would be appreciated..

I think Nexen seems like a good buy, as mentioned my gf has these on her Volvo S40 T4 and they do the job....and quiet too!

If not there are heaps of deals going around with K Mart tyres and even Tempe and their Hankook range!

Opps, posted in the other thread then realised it was an old thread so thought I will paste it here too:

Nexen N3000 are a cheap shit horrible tyre.
I have had the following over the last few years, rating from worst to best:
Achillies Somethingerother (came on the lib - horrible noisy and no grip)
Nexen N3000 (very little grip, especially as they wore below 50%)
Maxxis MA-V1 (overall good budget tyre, far better than nexens but not great still)
Federal 595ss (see below)
Bridgestone Potenza 040 (great OEM tyre)
Toyo T1Rs (Best tyres for grip wet/dry but do wear rather quick)

Of all the tyres I've had, best bang for buck has been the Federal 595ss by far. I found they were great in both wet and dry, reasonably quiet and great value. The Bridgy's were OEM on my SP23, and the T1Rs are what I replaced them with. Both great tyres, but at 60%+ than the federals, I dont believe they were worth the extra $$ on a daily driver.

My opinion - federal 595ss is the best bang for buck/cheaper tyre as its not much more than the nexen/maxxis but provides far greater grip but still good wear.

Finding good 18 inch rubber under $200 is going to be a hard task... Me a few other boys landed up going for Kumho KU36's & they are awesome! But I'd say they'd be more like $250ish a corner after the April price rise.

Tempe have a few options in the Hancook range, but the rubber is fairly old... So buyer beware if you go to Tempe.

haggle down your local tyre shop, can pick up some 225/40/18 kuhmo ku-31's for $170 a piece. unreal tyre, previously had falken fk452s and i rate these higher! rrp on them is around $220 or so...

Even better, they are a 225/40 that actually has a load rating suitable for a Gen4 Liberty but I hope you've got at least 7.5" wide rims.

I just bought a set for my mum's Citroen C5 (different size). I hope she never has to use the performance, but for the price it's nice to know it is there if she needs it.

225/40s go fine on a 7inch rim providing they have a stiff sidewall (the kuhmo's do)

same as running a 225/45 on a 17inch rim, it works but if its a soft sidewall it will flex.

unreal tyre, highly recommend them especially for the money!

I've just put a set of Toyo Proxes 4 on my car and they seem very good. Only done about 2000ks on them at the moment so can't say much about wear but as for ride, stick and noise they are very good. The only thing I've found so far is that they are very sensitive to pressure changes. Even a degree difference in the cold pressure makes a difference in the handling.

Yes a good marketing ploy, provided they are able to keep those new customers once RRP is re-instated and they try to claw back profit. The risk being everyone will associate Kumho with cheaper pricing. Its always hard to raise the price of a product after sustained discounting. Its a typical strategy - LG did it, but now struggle to ask similar prices of the more respected brands. Maybe Samsung were smarter by not discounting and concentrating on better products without the gimmicks

Dont get me wrong I reckon its great - I've ordered some KU36's Hope they always keep the price comparatively low. At least they have been successful in getting me to try them eh!

And yes people in tyre shops make stuff up. Pity Tyre Tech no longer exist Some actual passion and knowledge of round black hoops and performance over selling tyres (therein maybe the key to the demise?) Dont forget your Nitrogen everyone
