** UPDATE AS OF TUESDAY MARCH 3RD**
Not Clever Enough
Phat was telling me how a forum member tried to rock up to Liverpool Exhaust yesterday and asked to buy the mufflers outside of Phat and the group buy. Needless to say he was kindly rejected and asked to arrange such a purchase through Phat.

Folks, these mufflers are not sold to the public! So please don't try to be clever thinking you can bypass this whole group buy and getting one direct from Liverpool Exhaust. So anyone who has paid already and waiting in line for a set, you'll secure to know you will not lose your place in line for some dong hole who tries to take cuts ahead of you.

However there is good news for anyone wishing to bypass Phat. Once everyone who rightfully went through the group buy gets their mufflers, those bypassers will be able to buy the mufflers from Liverpool Exhaust. However, they have been told to sell the Phat mufflers for $1,300 (same as the HiTechs) instead of the lower price via the group buy.

BAHAHHA that's the best! hahahaha who was it?? come on show ur face

** UPDATE AS OF THURSDAY MARCH 6TH **

Delays In Production
Thanks again for everyone's continued patience. After moggy had the first set of mufflers from the jig installed, Phat declared them to hang too low and sitting a bit too far forward!

So Phat has spent the last 7 hours at the exhaust shop re-adjusting the jig so that the exhaust sits about 15mm higher and a bit more towards the front so that less muffler shows. This makes it look more integrated and more snug on the car. After making a mild steel version from the updated jig, I volunteered my car as a tester.

So off went the K2 canons and on went Phat's mufflers. Mmm, Rexy burble! Nice! On top of which the mufflers and tips were painted gun metal so now I currently have an extremely stealthy appearance in the back. I've always played with the thought of black or gun metal exhaust tips. Now I get to see what it looks like. Not bad! It's too dark now but I'll take pics tomorrow to post.

Unfortunately what this means is that there is a day or two delay on production, as Phat wants everything perfect before making a single production release. Because if it's wrong, it means over x20 sets will need to be returned. But that's the Phat man for ya! Always the perfectionist! Which is why he is so respected.

Here are pics of the test mufflers I've been driving around with today. Since the whole thing is mild steel (not going to waste stainless steel for testing), they painted the entire setup gunmetal, including the tips. I've always wanted to toy with the idea with black or dark grey exhaust tips since it was discuss on this forum a while back. Now that I see it in person, it's not too bad and is starting to grow on me. Hmm, I could live with gunmetal tips when I finally get the production set.

In any case, the muffler sit higher and closer to the car and looks more integrated. They sound extremely nice. At idle they are quiet if not quieter than stock (you literally hear nothing). But open it up and the Rexy burble shines through. They did a sound meter test last night and at 4,000 RPM, it was far below the legal limit for sound level.

The tips in gunmetal. Different and subtle! Non-bling tips are starting to grow on me.


A view directly from the back. Sits nicely with the car without being too high to burn the bumper bar or too low to look 'saggy'.

Once you start adding options it starts to make it too hard. You're better off painting them yourself. As for the sound - it's awesome, I keep jumping in the car and taking off just to hear that WRX burble. When you're just cruising it's hardly audible but when you accelerate you get that deep growl. Thanks to Phat for a great design and all the hours he's put into it to make it such a success. Also thanks to Jim for organizing it all. I am one happy little camper.

if not..What's involved in the painting .. ie how was this one painted? Is it easy to do? Can this be an option for the GB?
