Supercharged 2 litre Liberty engine

Postby Ric » Mon Feb 02, 2009 8:11 am

I was assisting with the timimg up at the MG Car Club's Hillclimb at Rob Roy all weekend.
Yesterday, and open wheeler showed up powered by a 2 litre Liberty engine that had been supercharged, so I had to get a few snaps. :)

(They were trying to find a way to prevent the gearbox shifting into 5th gear, the guy in the sombrero was changing gears in the cabin while the others were watching the linkages to the gearbox.)

Looks like a lot of fun. Why were they trying to prevent it from shifting into fifth?

The driver obviously stuffed a gear change on his first run.
I'm guessing he got fifth while trying to shift from second to third.
You wouldn't need 5th on this track (and maybe not even 4th either), so stopping the lever from shifting right across would be a way to prevent this.

If you have a fast connection, you can see a video I took of him starting his second run.

did u happen to find out how much power that thing is producing? I assume it'd be one of the older EJ20's right?

Probably revving a lot faster than standard.

Sorry, I don't know. I was only speaking to the driver's son. Apparently they bought the car with that engine in it (I asked if they'd considered using a 3.0R engine... ;))
