** UPDATE **

I spoke with Phat yesterday, and he said once Bob's car goes back up to finalise things with the muffler design and fit, it should go into production a day or two later. From there it may take up to 1 week get them out on market.

If you Sydney guys are nice and with a bit of persuasion, you might even be able to get Phat to finish a few sets in time for the cruise on the 22nd.

I also asked him about having different style tips. He said in order to save on time and initial cost, all mufflers will get the same STi single walled slant cut tips. This is to ensure fit and prevent burning of the bumper bar. And the good news is they will in fact sit a bit higher than the ones from the prototype so they appear more integrated.

Anyone wishing to have different tips, you'll have to cut these ones and weld the ones you want on your own. That way no one can try to blame Phat for tips that burn the bumper.

Also the choice to have no tips put on during production will no longer be an option. Again, this is to ensure the quality, fit, and finish of final production.

I'm heading off to Melbourne on the 21st or 22nd, so if they're not ready by that time (it is looking like they won't be and I'd rather things done well rather than rushed) I won't be able to pick up until after the 7th of March. Guys, I was speaking to Phat this weekend, and he's considering a package deal for anyone wanting the whole shebang at the same time. Unfortunately in order to make this happen, he needs a minimum of 10 people because he'll be making a jig to mandrel bend the stainless steel pipes so the centre pipe and Y-pipe are a single piece each. So he's just throwing out an EOI to see if anyone is interested.

For $2,650, Phat is offering the following turboback package:

- Phat quad tip mufflers
- Phat dump pipe
- 3" mandrel bent stainless steel centre pipe
- x2 resonators
- 2" or 2.5" mandrel bent stainless steel Y-pipe

For comparison, HiTech offers their turboback system for $2,600. However that involves their non-ceramic illegal dump pipe (wastegate by-passes the cat), and main use of mild steel for most components.

So for those of you buying the mufflers as well as the dump pipe, it's a good opportunity to do the centre and Y-pipe at the same time. Anyone who has heard blacknwhite's car will know this will make the exhaust note deeper and even more Rexy burble. And the while noise level is kept decent level while performance is optimised.

Ha that a good deal Jim, although now that I have sold the hitechs , and waiting for the "Phatties" I put the stock mufflers back on to 3" and dump and believe me its not a great sound at the moment

If that is the fitted price, I am interested. I was originally looking at a DP, mid and Y but will go with this for that price. I will be selling the hitechs if this is a goer so anyone looking for Hitech quad tips drop me a pm with a reasonable offer. Less than 5000 km's on these peeps.

Ouch, I can't imagine how horrible they sound. Perhaps I should try to drop by to do a recording? Always wondered what a DP, centre pipe, and Y-pipe combined with a stock muffler sounds like.

Because I know a lot of people think that this will be a quiet 'near stock' system by putting the stock mufflers onto a high flowing system.

Okay Jim, so what's the go at the moment? Any idea how long these will be?

Also if we choose not to buy these mufflers now. Is there an option to get them at a later date after the Group Buy? Or is this a one off?
