Is it is knee jerk reactions like Rudd's that put us in the problem we are in...

Now if they use that money for the greater good like regulating the money lending industry then I think we wouldn't have been in the position we are in now...

Joel, your not wrong... I think most of us are looking at the brighter side of the situation, which is very short sighted.

I think it's probably the wrong time of the year to do it as most people will probably use the money to pay off bills & other debt after the Christmas period. Effectively negating what big Kev is wanting us to do with the money.

I have a friend of mine who manages a fairly popular retail store (EB Games) & he told me business is extremely quiet. Not something that generally happens to large games stores these days - & for all you fellow nerds out there, yes he & I are both aware that there have been no big releases in the last month or so... We'll just have to see what happens when Halo Wars & Street Fighter 4 come out

not even assembly happens here in most cases.

It hasn't been passed in the senate or something & the Liberals are going to vote it down.

Regardless, we'll all still get a bit more cash via tax cuts

It's not being voted down for economic reasons, only political ones. Turnbull won't let Rudd be seen to be doing something positive.

And that comes from someone who doesn't particularly like Rudd and won't get a red cent of the bonus.

The Republicans are doing the same thing over in the USA. Pretty pathetic really, but oppositions don't get voted in for being constructive, they fall over the line by default if they do a good job of running down the government.

Most governments need no help whatsoever when it comes to looking bad though.

The money would be better spent on infrastructure like hospitals, schools, roads etc. That way you create jobs not only in the building of same but also when the projects are completed. Once you give it out in handouts it's basicly gone with not a lot to show for it. At least with infrastructure it'll be there for many years. :wink:

I'm not sure about the situation on hospitals but they have allocated certain sums towards roads, schools and "nation-building" infrastructure
