STi Lower Arm Bar - 08 GT-B tbSTi

Postby SMI77 » Thu Jan 29, 2009 10:14 pm

Following investigation, I understood our ride should have had the bar fitted when new.
The ride did not appear to have one.
At a recent service I requested confirmation of the tbSTi specifications on this item.
I am not exactly sure what really happened but it would appear Subaru Aust was unable to confirm or deny it was part of the specs.
However, the Service Manager @ Llewellyn Subaru, Ipswich, who is extremely helpful, ordered the bar, part # ST2051021010, on the basis of the “part not fitted during manufacture” & SA to bear the cost (supply & fit).
The bar has now been fitted, at no cost to us. Certainly makes an improvement!!!

In approx. April ’08, when we were looking at the purchase of it, I contacted SA direct to try to obtain the tbSTi specs. SA were unable to assist, and even the dealer was unable to obtain same. I even queried that the SA staff must have some form of approved list so they knew which parts to fit. SA still were unable to supply.

Good work SMI. Don't let Subaru try to con you with missing items. But I think all the ads that describe the limited edition Liberty STi just has 'STi sports suspension package'. I think by leaving it very vague they can argue that the lower arm bar was never part of it. But I'm sure SA had to cut a lot of things out to keep the price down to make it more attractive.

In any case, the spec sheet for the MY07 STi lists 'STi chassis/cross-member strengthening bar', which I assume is another name for the lower arm bar? I'm pretty sure MY07's got it. Anyway, here's a shot of under the car while it was getting the DP fitted. Hope I highlighted the right part!

If they really don't know what should and shouldn't be on our cars, I might ask them to put a front lsd and dccd in mine.

LIARS!

Thank you, and yes, that is the bar that was installed.
250 STi's x $358 RRP + fitting is a fair amount of $$'s to save. Yes, I know that is not what it would cost SA, but one can work out a guesstimate.

To the other 248 owners, if they have been short changed, have a go!!!

We must have got lucky - our`s was all there ! I wondered if it was just an STi sticker on the lower arm , but if you think it makes a difference to the ride then good !

I might let them know about the DCCD tho` hehe

Took my car for it's first service today, and sadly when the car was up on the hoist they confirmed that the STi Lower Arm Bar was not there :(

Subaru HO will be getting a call first thing Monday morning from a very unhappy customer!!!

Cheers

I think I was confusing the Lower Arm Bar with the black STi Rear Control Arms ?

Is there some literature or documentation to confirm the TB STi "should" have the Lower Arm Bar upgrade ? I will also be looking into it if it was supposed to be included in the STi suspension upgrades.

have not got any officlal literature but i know mine is fitted with rear control arms,

all the sales literature never went into great detail regarding the actual suspension parts fitted.

Yes dont get the two confused, I have 4 STi control links in the rear end and ALSO the front lower arm bar mounted under the front subframe to assist the strut brace ontop
Lifes pretty straight without twisties:

might be hard to convince SA to supply a part thats not actually listed anywhere to be supplied on the MY09. As mentioned before , its a pretty vague spec sheet of STi Chassis/Suspension Upgrades and will be hard to hold them to it based on the MY07 Tb Sti sporting the part.
I`ll be interested to hear how people with 08 - 09 TB Sti go with their claims for a backorder of Lower Arm Bars.
