Changing headunit whilst keeping Mcintosh amp...

Postby tangcla » Mon Jan 05, 2009 4:53 pm

Seems like this has been done to varying degrees - does anyone know if it's possible to change the headunit to something else, whilst keeping the Mcintosh amp and all 13 (or 14 if you have an MY07) speakers working without needing a new amp?

I'd guess that knowing Clarion there is a weirdo custom interface between the amp and the head unit that would make it hard to swap in other components.

AFAIK, the headunit to amp is just a line-level out (i.e. speaker out) - I know it's possible to retain the front and rear speakers, but I'm not sure about the subwoofer.
