Sat Nav - Who has knowledge?

Postby Mr White » Tue Dec 30, 2008 7:17 pm

Hi guys,

i have a MY07 Lib Spec B with Sat Nav, and i'm hoping to find some answers to the following questions:

- Can you update the software in any other way than by going to Subaru?
eg website, can i burn an updated DVD off a club member, or doesn't it work that way?
- Are there any other cool upgrade type things you can download/install? eg red light/speed cameras etc.

Any help would be awesome.
Cheers
Al

Yeah you can go directly to whereis and order the update cd off them. Here is a link to their online store. Just scroll down until you find the one for subaru. As for burning the cd, i have never tried it myself.. But while searching for the official page through google, i did stumble on a torrent site which listed v14 for download so.. Let's leave it at that.

EDIT: Also read somewhere that some Telstra shops do sell it as well.

Thanks Resonate,

Does anyone have the latest Whereis version? (v14)
Does it have Melbourne's Eastlink freeway on it?
Does anything else get updated (eg graphics etc), or is it just the maps?
I currently have v12.

Thanks
Al

i don't believe anyone has version 14 yet...I've got v13 at the moment...

I was gonna download v14 but people who download it from torrents are so I.T. savvy ....they don't stay on to help others download as well (damn leechers!)

v14 of Toyota's maps apparently works but you need a dual layer DVD to burn on to.....

hey all,

i got v13 (MY08) - no eastlink....

i er hem obtained a v14 toyota map from a mate and burnt onto dual layer disc but wouldnt read on my sat nav, apparently only works for the denso units (mine is kenwood)

i am trying to get my hands on v14... will keep u updated

EDIT just read over at ozliberty that version 14 DOES NOT have eastlink and that whereis have stopped shipping version 14 as v15 will be out late Jan apparently... so i would say hold off until v15 is available...

not sure of the cosmetic differences on screen...

I have downloaded and burned the V14 Toyota one that was doing the rounds on Bitorrent (for research and testing purposes only ). You need a dual layer DVD drive and disk to burn the image, but it works in my car fine (MY07 GTspecB).

Graphics appear to be the same.. I live in Sydney and travel a bit interstate and have notice differences in the maps from v13 like the Albury bi-pass is now there.

Can't get the school zone/speed camera's warnings to work but that must need a update to the base system software. The data is on the DVD, would love to get this to work though any ideas anybody ???

Maybe some improvements in directions given, etc, but not that noticeable I personally think the system is quite good anyway.

Little note: If you need to disconnect your battery for some reason you can't reload from the burned DVD, you just go back to your original DVD boot off there then pop out that DVD and insert the newer version. You can check what version you are running from one of the setup screens.

V15 is due out this month, hopefully not at the current ridiculous pricing...

Hope this helps.

For those with the Kenwood SatNav (non bluetooth version) who have the mic for voice recognition, the only disadvantage of the Toyota v14 DVD vs the Subaru v13 DVD is that the Toyota v14 DVD doesn't allow voice recognition - probably cos it doesn't have the voice data on the DVD.

So the choice is, use old maps but allow voice recognition, or use newer maps but forgo the voice recognition.

I wonder if the voice data would've been on the Subaru v14 DVD, but I don't know anyone with this DVD to try out.

Not sure if the feature is available on the newer SatNav (hey you guys do get a DVD player, bluetooth and radio integration :) ) but the older Kenwood SatNav has a mic input at the rear of the DVD reader for voice recognition. You just need to hook up the Kenwood KNA-VC300 mic and everything just works - at least it did for me.

However, as the firmware is Subaru specific, we don't get any options for voice recognition. If we ran the normal Kenwood firmware, you get all sorts of options with respect to voice recognition but that menu option is not available to us. Bit pov considering the cost of our SatNavs. However, the voice recognition stuff still works nonetheless (I suspect though, just not as well as it could work)

Cheers
Teck

btw I forgot to add that the voice recognition is limited. It only recognises certain command words - I think the vocabulary is only up to 100 words (I can't remember the precise number)

Not to hijack this thread....but is there anyway to upload custom POI's onto the oem nav? Such as school zones, cameras etc?
