Where do you service your car?

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

Where do you service your car?

Postby chris_szybiak » Mon Dec 15, 2008 1:38 pm

Hi Guys,

My car needs to go in for a service. Not sure what other work might be needed to be done to it, but I want to go somewhere where they can do a good job and don't rip me off.

I've got a few mechanics that I know, but I'm curious where you guys go? Not interested in going to Subaru, considering they do rip you off, and from some previous posts, give your car back in a worse state then when it went in.

So if all the sydney boys/girls could let me know, that would be great. I'm sure there's a few of you that would like to bost about their mechanic !

Thanks

Pity you're in Sydney.
I DO use Subaru (Glen Waverley), and have never had a bad experience.
I bet Subaru wouldn't have been so willing to swap my engine under warranty if I had gone elsewhere for servicing.
(No, the engine swap wasn't due to any servicing problem... ;))

I get mine serviced at A&B Motorsports in Brookvale, all my family cars and friends cars go there....they are very reliable and fair on prices. They can get heaps of mods for Subies too....most of my mods come from there!

I've been going to Denlo for my previous WRX, then Lib GT and now my 3RB.

So far so good, fingers crossed it stays that way :)

Yup, same Denlo Service Center at James Ruse Drive that Danny mentioned.

Depending on the service you are after I think they would charge the normal going rate. Not excatly sure how much that is though... I'm up for a service soon though.

Was your vehicle outside the warranty period? If not, then Subaru would be in breach of the Trade Practices Act by treating your engine claim any differently to a non-dealer serviced car with the same problem.

Given that was such a common and well publicised string of failures, it would have been a legal minefield for Subaru to differentiate claims on the basis of whose stamp is in the service book.

Often the myth of dealer good will backfires and it is those who hand over an itemised fault report who get good warranty service, while those who rely on the "expertise" of the pimply faced apprentice to diagnose a fault get jerked around.

The only time a car of mine has been grossly mistreated by a mechanic was while it was actually in for warranty work at a dealer. They disconnected the wastegate and flogged it around the streets, boosting to more than 20psi. Thank goodness standard exhausts don't flow very well!

For those in Queensland, that dealership was Zupps, but others have left various scratches and marks on my cars as well, only to deny it when pointed out later.

Another member from here had to take his car back (twice) to a different Brisbane dealer because they couldn't work out how to do an oil change properly. I believe they offered him a free service as compensation, but he just took the safer option of taking the car elsewhere.

In 14 years of Subaru ownership (5 new cars, 3 used), I can't count the number of times dealers have "ordered the wrong parts". If it's less than a $500 fix, I'd just get my mechanic to do it and call it an investment in piece of mind. I'd say the money I've saved over the years has paid for many such fixes anyway. It's just not worth the risk in my opinion and avoiding the dealer network has certainly enhanced my Subaru ownership experience and made me more likely to purchase another one.

I'm sure there may be some competent Subaru dealer service centres ... somewhere ... but I'd rather know whose hands I've left my $60,000 car in thanks.

I just had some work done a Suttons Service Centre in Alexandria. I think it is very new because I have only recently seen the signs and it isn't listed on the Subaru website yet.

I just fronted up with the car to get them to look at the internal light issue and also do the turbo recall. They were quick and responsive which is good.

It's quite sad, but I gave up on the notion of service long ago.
