I love the way my Brembos stop and look!

50/50 I'd say.

Starts to make the Brembo look like good value.

No worries, I'm sure others (particularly those with Brembos) may disagree.

Saw that you changed the thread title. Don't just do the fronts, you may actually make it brake worse by doing that.

I am at "stage one" with my upgrade and have only got the fronts on - as of yesterday arvo. There is no real feeling that the braking is in any way worse by putting the fronts on - I even had to contend with a hard stab on them thanks to a w@nker on the way home pulling out in front of me. Mind you I am just got some new rotors sorted to do the rears so they will go on next week. Happy days.

Will do Resonate, should have something concrete by tomorrow.

Been doing some research and reading.. spoke to a few ppl.

A few big brand names out there that cost an arm and a leg, Endless, AP Racing, Project Mu to name a few. Asked about some pricing and for the fronts, looking at easy $5k plus!

Then considering what Coyote posted, at half the cost is a bargain..

Then there is the debate around slotted or cross drilled. I got this from the other thread from Legacy GT.

Q: Are slotted and cross-drilled rotors needed?
A: Slots are useful to a point when you are looking for a way to prevent glazing of the brake pads. Glazing of the pads happen when you overheat the brake pads (either too hard on the brakes and not big enough of a rotor to dissapate the heat fast enough thus makes the pad material harden and it starts to lose its frictional properties. Cross Drilled really has no real use now as brake technology has advanced.. it does have an appealing look to them, but as for today, you dont need them as they serve next to nil on purpose. Specifically on the Legacy (GT or 2.5i) the brakes are fairly well using just the stock rotors. The weight of the rotors (mass) is pretty heavy.. more mass also helps in heat capacity, so the more mass you have for the rotors, the more repeative braking that you can do. Big Brake Kits do benefit from this very reason, but a few other brake tests has shown that the thickness of the plates and the overall thickness of the rotor proved to be more of a useful design than just the overall diameter of the rotor [Motor Trend did the study about 2 to 3 years ago I believe]. Blank rotors are fine and does the job, especially for a daily driver that doesnt need that heat capacity.

Decisions...

I'll be following this one with a great deal of interest. Brakes will likely be one of the first things I do (if I do anything to it)

Boomark a few of the WRX forums. Rexnet etc. Every once in a while a set of Brembos will come up.

You can also try one of the importers.

http://www.importmonster.com.au/

Aaron is good value and can source most second hand parts.

I know that the ones off an 04 STi will bolt straight on.

for 5K+ u might as well get some stoptechs

at least you can tune them (by fiddling with the piston sizes) to suit your driving/setup

i think it's a fine line between "needing to stop NOW" (which the stock setup doesn't even come close to) and exceeding the grip of the tyres
