Tips for improving Xenon low beam output?

Postby newbie_liberty » Sun Jan 08, 2023 9:06 pm

The light cutoff is shockingly bad, almost dangerous.

I thought that it could be a failing levelling system as the cutoff is really bad, but when looking at the lights against a wall, they seem to be pointing forward at a reasonable height.

Besides trying some new bulbs, what are some things that I should look into?

Once your suspension height is sorted, try aiming the headlights to spec.
Mine are HID but the process should be similar.

I used an online guide, did the alignment in a flat car park area with a flat wall.
2 bolts on the rear of the housing aim up/down and left right.

Need a description of the process?

If the light beam cuts off at the correct height when viewed against a flat wall, but the main intensity of the light is in the wrong position, then check the globes are seated correctly.
If they are not, then the light source comes from a diffent spot in relation to the focus of the headlamp reflector and lens and upsets the spread of light.

Found the fault - a poor conversion to cheap led bulbs designed for halogen headlights. Wiring was also hacked up and ballasts removed.

Installed a set OEM ballasts and fitted some Osram D2S bulbs I had lying around. I can actually see at night now!
