I was talking to a guy this morning about replacing just the rear mufflers for quads and he said that it sounds to tinny if you don't do from the cat back. Is this true or is he pumping up the sale?

Don't know about it sounding too tiny, as most of it really depends on the configuration/brand of muffler. But from the exhaust work I've done on my previous NA's, extending it to a catback setup makes it a tad deeper and there's a bit more inside cabin noise.

Just a bit of follow up info on my exhaust. Its really deepened now and is fractionally louder than when I did the sound clip.

Its far from tinny, I can assure you

I want to do the from cat back but still want to keep the old system in case I have a warranty issue. Does anyone know where I can get the flange from that fits at the back of the cat. Its some kind of flex joint.

I'm up for the challenge. About to get a full exhaust system on my07 3rb from Exhaust Technology in Adelaide from the back of the manifold all the way. Mild steel with 2 x Junbl ststeel high flow cats, ststeel junbl resonator and 2 x ststeel junbl boxes with quad tips. Then I'll be getting Ecutek type 2 at S&J automotive. The total cost will be around $4,500. ($2,500 for exhaust, $2000 for ecutek). S&J did this to a 3rb just last week and i went for a drive in it. With a completely new exhaust plus ecutek the dyno graph showed an extra 20kw at the wheels! from an NA! And man does it sound awsome. I can't wait! I will start a new thread and post dyno graphs when i get it done late next week. :twisted:

am very keen to hear about your efforts in a few weeks time and keen to see some pics of the quads too

it's gonna be pretty slick if you get the gains you are after...
