ABS Terrors

Postby Zeppy » Wed Mar 02, 2022 8:08 pm

Recently killed a rear wheel bearing on my liberty. very stupidly as i replaced the whole rear hub i attacked the abs speed sensor and killed it in the process. i then replaced the sensor with a (proved) working one and i still have an abs light on my dash. no matter what i’ve tried i can’t fix the problem or even find it. i’ve cleaned the sensor, tried doing a ‘reset’ on the abs by taking the negative terminal off my battery and pressing the brake pedal in repeatedly with no luck. any help is appreciated

Read the Diagnostic Trouble Codes, on the odometer even, search DTC code in FSM workshop manual, follow procedures…

Links in signature below (FSM)

Keep in mind outliers like bits of old sensor stuck in tone ring etc.

I can’t remember if the tone ring is in the bearing assy or the CV, but if it’s aftermarket bearing… try a spare from the wreckers?

Also you might want to cross check the abs sensor part number/location for your car vs the one your spare came from, see if they’re indeed compatible.

Generally we want to limit any and all assumptions in the parts swapping game.
