Re-set my McIntosh GPS

Postby 1st Time Subi » Fri Oct 15, 2021 8:31 pm

Hi All.
I’m one of those that, even though I know where I’m going (most of the time) I still like to have the maps running just in case. Problem is, the map doesn’t stick with me. I can set a memory point but the GPS doesn’t follow the roads I’m actually driving on. It has me driving through a paddock when I’m on a major freeway/highway.
I’ve tried configuring it to my location manually, several times, with no avail. I’ve tried the “factory reset” and that didn’t work either.
I’ve only purchased my 2011 Liberty in the last 6 months and I love it. I don’t see the point in mounting my phone on my dash/windscreen for the maps when I have a GPS built into my car, plus it looks ugly in a good looking car.
If I can’t fix the GPS issue, I’ll certainly be looking at replacing it with an Android infotainment system, when Melbourne is finally out of lockdown!
Any advice on how to reset the GPS to make it work right would be much appreciated.

Did you work this out?

The info might be in your owners manual, available online if you don’t have that.

Try the FSM links in my signature below, some of them have the owners manual as well as the service manual ;)

Ok so I checked it out and the navigation info is in a supplementary section in the owners manual…

I googled it and found the Legacy version online: https://www.carmanual.org/OwnersManual/ ... system.pdf

I agree that this might not be the exact nav in your car, but the menu structure and diy help may still be relevant.

Hi All,

So I’ve finally worked up the nerve to Reset my GPS and I have 1 question. When rebooting the GPS, do I have the Where is disc in the drive or the DENSO disc in the drive? I know, silly chick “First time Subi”question.

Only silly answers.

After disconnecting the car battery the original disc must be used as it contains the nav software.
Then eject the disc and reinsert the update disc.
