P1710

Hi,

I haven't put this in a specific category, because I don't know which it belongs too.

I've inherited my partners liberty wagon MY10 GT. Just put the new tyres on, and a couple weeks later the dash lit up while driving to work (AT oil temp, check engine, cruise control and a couple others), but it drove fine.
Took it in to be read and cleared and it's a P1710 fault. It's been a couple weeks, and only yesterday when coming out of a roundabout it didn't accelerate and then jerked a little.
I've been reading up on it all morning and spoke with a mechanic who advised I trade it in now or pay upwards of $5k when it gets worse.

My partner is hoping there's an issue with the wiring and that's causing a gremlin in the computer, because one taillight and one headlight go out intermittently - but I think that's wishful thinking.

The way I see it,
a) I can keep driving and hope that it doesn't get worse
b) I can keep driving, and it can get worse and maybe cause other issues
c) I can trade it in now
d) I can have it looked at, and when they tell me the $$$$ prognosis, I can play ignorant when I trade-in

Edit ** I was told it could be 1 of 3 things causing the issue, but it's not necessarily a process of elimination.
Is this true? Could we replace the sensor first and see if it stops? Is it difficult/expensive to replace the sensor?

Any and all advice welcome.

Thanks!!!

If you google for "P1710 subaru", there's lots of posts saying replacing the sensor has fixed the problem.
For around $100 it's certainly worth a try...

Thanks RIc, I thought replacing the sensor and maybe the trans oil to be the most obvious solution. But was told it's not possible/worth the effort.
I'm almost certain I'm being given bad advice - hence my post.

I'll be on the hunt for an auto trans specialist this week.
