Do you guys think there will be scrubbing issues with 18x7.5 +43 wheels with 235 40 18 tyres?

Not if you trim the plastic fillers. :P

You May be able to extrapolate somewhat using your current clearances, specs etc vs your proposed setup using a rim and tyre calculator eg willtheyfit.com

But bear in mind some tyres have a meatier shoulder than others in the same spec.

Thanks for that. I just bought some secondhand RE30's 18x7.5 +50 with S001 215 45 18 tyres..
This should clear big time hey.
What I'm more excited about is the weight loss from stock 11.3kg (correct me if wrong) to 7.2kg wheels

Yes 18x8 et 35 will fit perfectly.
This photo is 19x8.5 et 35 with 235/30/19
Tein coilovers, guards rolled. Scrapes when people sit in the back of car.

Looks great!
What parts/alignment/mods support that fitment without rubbing?

Hi Guys is there any reason everyone is running 225s on 8 inch+ width rims?
When I last got tyres I was quoted less for 235 and 245s but couldn't fit them as I only have the stock 18x7.5 rims atm. Would really like to go to 235's and am currently eying off a set of 18x8's with +40 offset.

It just depends on how much shoulder you like/need/can stand.
235 is perfectly acceptable on 8” rims.
Some tyres are going to have a bigger shoulder than others eg ad08r is on the larger size.

Read an faq: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread. ... -4426.html

Calculate your proposed & current fitment at eg willtheyfit com...

Imho, your proposed specs will require some guard work pending final ride height and camber settings plus tyre shoulder.

Ideally you’ll do the guard roll etc before using the tyres, if they rub, your new tyres will get cut on the shoulders.

Forgot to mention I did this already. With a 235/45s on 18x8s there would be 11.3mm more poke vs the stock rims with 225s.
Still running bog stock struts and springs with non adjustable urethane bushes everywhere

Correction: I had the offset for the OE wheels wrong. Thought they were +45 not +55. So that makes the extra poke 16.3mm. Could be a fraction tight with 235s. May need to roll them for that.
The wheels I'm looking at are currently being offered for $450 so still may be worth it.

So if you park the car with a wheel on a kerb or ramp to compress the suspension and tyre into the guard, you can measure the tyre to inner guard clearance and use that as a datum point in your calculations.

This technique can also work with a setup that doesn’t clear, using talc or blueprint paper, anything that leaves a witness mark and therefore clues as to where trimming, sanding or rolling is required.

Cool thanks for that tip. That would be a very handy way to work it out. Maybe even shove something heavy like some sand bags on 1 corner to really weight it down if need be.

Also, when you say 'trim the plastic fillers' I assume you mean the inner guard? Does this mean you end up with holes in there?

Potentially yes, take some of the outer radius off, if required or if the edge is cracked and hangs down.

Especially at the rear, trim the inside of the plastic trim piece at the front of the rear arch if required.

Hmmm the more I look at this, the more problematic it gets. Think I may hold off and try to get some rims with at least a +45 offset. Don't have lots of time on my hands atm.

Thanks for your help and advice bigBADbenny

Hi sorry to hijack your thread,

I'm looking at some work meister s1 3p. Anyone know if 18x8.5 +35 will fit and clear brembos on my 08 TBSTI wagon.

Also if I do need to roll the fenders, how hard is it to do it yourself, or how much would it roughly cost to take it to a shop for all 4 corners.

Cheers
