EJ25 replacement front main seal

Postby Lavalamp » Mon Sep 03, 2018 6:59 pm

Hi all,

I've taken my EJ25 out of my 2001 Liberty, changing head gaskets, assorted oil seals, cam belt kit, spark plugs, water pump and an HD clutch kit.

I replaced the front main seal but tapped it in all the way 'home' ie. past the point where it's flush with the surrounding housing. Is positioning it so far in likely to be a problem? I didn't notice anything in there, the diameter of the crankshaft seemed to be consistent beyond the normal seal location, no shoulder as such. I just thought I'd ask before I went and put it all back together and into the car, where it might start leaking straight away. Could be annoying, given how easy it is to get another one and put that one in now.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

You’d follow the procedure and spec outlined in the FSM.

A rear main seal fully inserted/seated is a bad thing for sure.
