MY 04 GT Liberty replacement turbo options.

Postby cjs0303 » Sat Aug 26, 2017 12:22 pm

Hi Guys,

Just purchased a MY04 GT Liberty Auto just as a daily driver and something to run around in.

Drove it around for a few days and enjoyed it however the turbo charger has just blown - i did suspect this would happen - on boosting it didnt sound great but i just ignored it... :(

I was considering getting the turbo rebuilt and am not too keen on purchasing a second hand VF38.

I am looking very closely at the mamba turbocharger - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MAMBA-Turboc ... Sww5NZBs0v

I have also read a bit about the kinugawa turbocharger also but i'm not sure which one would be the right one for my car.

Does anybody know if the mamba turbo is any good? Am i looking at the right one?

Just with the kinugawa tubro does anybody know which is the correct part for the 04 Gt's?

Would really appreciate anyone's input also any recommendations for a mechanic in Sydney that might be able to put it in that's trustworthy..

Was really excited to finally pick up a liberty and hopefully after this is sorted i will be happy with it!

you will need a tune too, to be safe as WG spring potentially different rate and differences in diameters/housing flow could cause undesirable boost response

For an exchange I would see ATP in Moorabin, they can install or give you a new CHRA VF38 to do your own swap.
CURRENT - ATP GTX 3576 - 22psi - 283.7awkw
OLD - Dom 1.5Xtr - Last dyno 254ahkw, previous 238ahkw, first 224awkw.

I know this is an old post, but keen to hear how you went with the Mamba!

Hey mate, just noticed in your profile that you've got a 2.5T, the Mamba we're talking about is a twin scroll unit for the 2.0T (unless you were just curious from a build / quality perspective).

I believe you have many more options available to you given the much more common single scroll setup on the 2.5T. That being said, I haven't paid much attention to what would fit yours so can't offer that advice, but there's heaps of info on here about turbo upgrades for the 2.5T so do some searching and you'll find all the answers you need 8)
