Postby Lee2 » Sun Jan 14, 2018 6:36 pm

Hey guys, just interested in opinions from other 3.0R SpecB drivers out there. Which octane 95/98 and brand of petrol delivers the best performance in your experience? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

From experience of mates car, 98 gives better mpg , especially on a cruise (always true I guess). Consistently get low 8 l/100km on 98, same as on my gtb 6mt.

If your car isn't tuned for a higher octane fuel, then 95 will be all you need (98 won't make a difference on a car that isn't tuned to take advantage of it).

Shell is the only one that I've seen (at least in my area) that consistently sells 95. Most others seem to do normal ULP, and then their Premium being 98.

Of the 98 options, a lot of people on here incl me like BP Ultimate. It seems to be very consistent and good quality.

But I'm not sure how that relates to fuel economy, or if 98 would get you better mpg. My driving isn't consistent enough to have been able to measure that.

I had a 3.0 R Spec.B and would only run 98, it does make a difference to economy on a trip, but around town might be hard to notice. I had mine tuned for 98 and went from peak 180 KW to 192 and peak 300nm torque to 340 with absolutely no mods. The low down torque increase made it much nicer to drive around town.
