If the switch actuator is nylon or similar, I can see how a thinner washer would take up some slack. ;)

I cheated and saved my knuckles. Got mine done today at Eblens @ Kingswood - just over $200 parts and labour. Took them just over 1.25 hours.

They had an issue with the plug not being the same (round vs square). Correct part number and double checked by the mechanic whilst I was there. They changed the plug and all working fine.

Spewing! I only installed the short shifter on the wagon a few months ago (PITA) and now the reverse light switch has come to the end of its useful life!

Have bought 2 of these switches from partsouq incase the tbsti one decides to do the same. Costed $61aud delivered for 2 reverse light switches, still cheaper than $79 plus postage from MRT :\

When these arrive hopefully they will be good for another 9 years! Cheers for advice and Part# as always much appreciated. :air_kiss:

Shaving the washer works for this and the NPS neutral position switch too, in a pinch.

If anyone needs a reverse light switch, my mechanic ordered a second one to do a warranty job after he replaced my faulty.
Upon testing the suspect switch worked, and with a slimmer washer its back in the car.
Subaru don't allow returns of electric parts (for some reason) so he's stuck with a brand new, unused switch.
Located Blaxland NSW, but I guess it can be posted anywhere. He'd just like to get his cost back.

So mine is on the blink now and so pissed I didn't read this before having my clutch replaced recently :(.

So I can't find the part numbers that are supposed to be on page 1, can anyone help for 6 spd MY07?

Also, some people say they are using a crowsfoot socket and the other spanner? Which one works best?

Cheers,
Shaheenis

Corgi posts are good posts.

Use a Crow's Foot 19mm spanner as described in the openning post.
No other tool will cut the mustard when the gearbox is in the car.

Thanks Peter. I haven't seen or used a crows foot before so wasn't sure. When I have googled I only see the sockets come up. Is it just a crows foot socket on the end of a socket wrench? I thought there must be access issues for getting a spanner and hand anywhere in there when people have been talking about very long extension bars - presumably these aren't needed with a spanner. Is that listing of Partsouq? Looks a lot better than the ~$70 price tag from dealer. I was hoping to do mine on the 2 week break over Xmas at the same time I do the 6MT shifter bushes (finally) and the rear suspension spacers that you sent to me over a year ago :O! I also have a steering wheel to refurbish using an imported kit and building a re-release Tamiya Hornet so should keep busy! Merry Christmas!

Like, the crows foot spanner connected to the end of a long extention bar reaching in from the rear of the gearbox.
Just like below.
It will allow you to loosen and to tighten the switch.
The rest is by "twiddling"

Thanks Peter, just bought the part from Subaru highway robbery at $74 for what looks like it should cost $10 but have grown to expect that from Subaru. I will tackle this soon but ran out of time on the holidays.

Hi Everyone,
(reopening topic) :D
I wanted to thank anyone who posted their experience, tips and tricks for the reverse switch job. I managed somehow to get mine done and back together in just under 3 hours, including shaving the washer etc for the new switch.

I figured it would be good for people to hear their information has helped someone, instead of the usual forum story where the topic just ends and nobody finds out what happened.

Cheers,
peanut.

I wish I had of read this post before I did mine?
Maybe it would not have taken me so long?

Something perhaps to add:
Be careful with the crows foot wrench undoing the sensor: it’s possible to crack the bell housing if the wrench is turned against it.
