Then supercharge it....?

I'll be selling and buying a GT before I even entertain the idea of supercharging it.

And it's time for yet another exhaust update, I have finally made progress to the point where I can see what it will look like on the car, and I'm probably only two hours away from being done (which unfortunately will probably be late next week).

So having finished the extension pipes I needed to trim them so that I could attach the tips, I worked out where I wanted the tips and then went off that.
Image

After cutting the pipe I had to attach the tips, to make sure that I would be able to line them up properly on the car I just did a small tack weld.
Image

This is the exact reason why I tacked them, they really aren't straight...
Image

A little brute force later...
Image

Image

I took them back off the car and welded the whole way round, next time I'll hopefully be finished and I can finally install these for good. I'm super happy with how they look, and it means you guys will finally get to stop dealing with my shitty exhaust updates.

So, I finally finished the exhaust. I love how it looks, but I need to bring the driver's side tips in as they poke a bit further than the passenger side. The only problem is that I'm not sure how much I like the sound, it still rumbles and it has improved comfort and driveability in terms of drone and cabin noise, BUT, I just don't like how quiet it is, it needs to open up more when I push it.

However, the actual important bit is some photos, so in no particular order

I also went to a small meet-up today and got a few photos there, so I'll throw those up here too.

Nice work with the fabrication :)
Did you mig or tig?
If mig what wire n settings?
Iirc one way to get a bit more note out of the WRX STi muffs is to weld a bigger inlet pipe into the muffs, slightly changing the oem baffle schema.
There is a how to on this forum.
Failing that, you'd probably revert to upgrading the mid pipe to one with a chambered mid muffler for a deeper but not droney note. Works for postfl gt with 3" tbe and WRX STI sedan muffs at least...

Thanks man!
I used mig with an argon CO2 mix, but I'm honestly not sure what settings, wire speed was around 5 and the current setting was the second lowest most of the time I think.
The welds aren't the prettiest, but there aren't any leaks.
And thanks, I'll look into it, I'm running the XForce mid pipe, which I think is 2.25" with a hotdog resonator, which at the moment is giving a sound I like, just the volume is the main issue. I was thinking of opening the mufflers and changing the internals, but I wasn't really sure where to start.

Nice, the diameter of the wire?

As for volume, open a window, drop a gear or take the covers out of the boot... Or...

I'll lookup the muffler mods... here:

Off the top of my head 0.8mm, it's at my dad's so can't check, but 90% sure it was 0.8mm.

I think the volume issue is that I was happy with where it was at, and maybe wanted to go a little louder, but now it is back to almost stock levels of volume (sounds better though). I don't necessarily want anything over the top, just something that will open up a bit when I knock it down a gear and give it the beans.

And thanks for the muffler link, I'll have a look into it, the trick there will be getting flanges and bending the pipe in the right way, but I guess I've come this far, may as well go all out.

Yeah those settings make perfect sense, given the thin gauge of the tubing: great work!
I say go further with volume mods with caution, as it's possible to make it a drone monster everywhere in the rev/load range of the motor :)

Thanks, it was definitely trial and error to begin with.

And yeah, my old setup was pretty drone-y, it's the only thing I like about the new system. But I'll definitely look into changing the inlet.

And on a different note, today I decided to finally clean up my headlights.

My basic process was 400 grit side to side, 800 up and down, 1200 diagonally one way, and then 2000 diagonally the other way, all wet sanded with soapy water.
After that I used the pads and polish from my rain-x kit, the sandpaper was just because they were really bad and needed quite a lot off. I used rust-oleum 2x ultracover clear to seal them.

I am terrible at taking before photos, but here is one done.
Image

Then of course, it started to rain so I had to cover it up and put the other side on hold.
Image

This afternoon once the weather improved I finished off the other one.
Image

Way better than before, and hopefully the light output will also be better.

Nice, googling the rustoleum now ;)
Next time, I'd consider applying the clear coat to a keyed surface, somewhere between 2000 to 8000 is said to work well.
I didn't and have minor flaking on the domed section :P

Looking at the modded wrx STi muffs pic, I'd be bracing the rear j pipe to the body of the muff too :)

From research, perforated straight through muffs aka turbo mufflers, scream at wot, but drone everywhere else.
Baffled muffs are somewhat muted and kill drone.
However drone can be mitigated with a side branch resonator/s at any part of the system, preferably forward most.

Headers config is another contributing factor regarding the note if not volume.

Small unexciting update, grabbed a Sony XAV-AX100 for $400

Because of the existing setup it was only a matter of crimping three wires and hooking it up.

Yeah, not sure why yours didn't, I didn't have to cut the fascia or anything. Weird.

But also, thanks for chatting to me about it yesterday, zero regrets, I had a bit of a play tonight, it's so much nicer than the old unit.

I'm flashing a new update tomorrow so that I don't have the warning every time it starts.

WHAT TELL ME MORE ABOUT THIS! That just a factory update or something else? I need that.

It was super easy, and such a good thing to change.

All you have to do is download the stuff from here:
https://github.com/superdavex/Sony-XAV- ... ionDisable

Then extract it and put the update folder onto a fat32 formatted usb. Plug it in and hit update. Just make sure that you're on version 1.02.06.0 before you do it.

On a side note, but still HU related, android auto is very cool, and I can run obd2 for AA and get a live feed from torque.

Image

It also comes up with a little notification when the engine is at temperature.
