Amplification of the stock speakers

Postby pplwu » Wed Oct 29, 2008 12:49 pm

Hi Guys,

Wondering will I be damaging the speakers if I were to add amp to power the front speakers on the Stock Macintosh, will it be overkill for the speakers? I have added AMP and extra sub to the rear however I just don't feel it balanced very well.

Thanks

just do it hehe

add the Amp to the front and it will prob blow them up eventually.. then that will be enough reason to replace them hehe

You don't want to change the front speakers as well? If you're going to run a decent amount of power to them I imagine you'd want to at least change the midbass. You won't hear them distorting over the sub so they'll be the first to go.

That said, if you're fairly sensible about volume and put a high pass filter on the fronts they should probably do alright :)

Well that's my non-expert opinion on it anyway lol

Can anyone tell me how I can provide more power to the McIntosh system. It sounds good but lacks Ooomph! Can i just add an amp or also include a subwoofer?

Bro,

The stock speakers are weak. Pushing them more than the stock amp delivers (or adding in a more powerful amp) will bring you in the great, big, distortion region (courtesy of the speakers)

The whole McI system has been tuned to compensate for each other.

Try replacing the speakers, preserving the stock system, and you'll find out the sound sux big time.

You may want to replace the speakers, amps, + sound processors, etc get back a more palatable sound with more power.

My $0.01 input.........

Thanks!

Next thing is to change out all the speakers and get some that are aurally compatible with the McI system.

Thanks. This means that the McIntosh isn't as great as it was marketed.

Has anyone conducted a full upgrade? Would not want to spend more than $500 too.

Stock system

Postby pplwu » Fri Nov 07, 2008 11:24 am

Yeah I am thinking of the Line Converter from JL and this in fact I can then add amplier on the top of the stock amp giving it a boost. The problem is that I have to buy a set of good component speakers, anyone have some suggestion that'll fit?

I'm also on a tight budget. However, being fair, for the stock setup, it's not all that bad, as the whole McI system has been tweaked to work in unison.

Know of a person who just replaced the speakers (which is easy, as any place will have a plethora of makes and models). However, music produced was HORRIBLE! Won't mention the brand of speakers, but, they were above average speakers from a reputable make.

In the end, they ended up shelling out much dosh for speakers, amps, sound processors, etc........ Spent quite some time, as it was a matter of trial and error, auditioning, etc..........

After hearing all that, I've decided to keep it as it is...............
