EJ20Y swap, cam sensor wiring issue, early vs. late pinouts?

Postby l88m22vette » Mon Nov 20, 2017 10:39 am

I am from the states and imported a 2008 Spec-B front clip from Hong Kong. Everything is together, but since my setup is a bit of a Frankenstein (2005 USDM Outback XT, 2005 EJ20X ECU, 2008 EJ20Y with a VF45) I need to check the wiring for the cam sensors. My tuner mentioned that Subaru switched from a 2-prong sensor to 3-prong after the facelift, so now I have to square away the wiring; I got it running but threw p0365 and p0390 codes, and with some digging I noticed that the wiring to the 135 ECU plug wasn't finished (I need connections to pins 28-30).

Does anyone have a service manual for a revised 4th-gen Legacy (2006-08, BL) that shows wiring and pin locations? Every single manual I've found has the earlier setup, I've used the half-dozen normal Subaru manual websites and not one shows the correct late EJ20X/Y setup. Here is my specific wiring setup so far: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/109 ... ost4968361 and this is my swap thread: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/109 ... t-ons.html

I'm happy to swap to an earlier sensor, I've already cleaned the sensors with MAF spray, and would love any sources or advice. Thanks all!

So the front cut is an my08+ jdm 2.0t spec b?
Dual avcs?
USD $20 for 72hrs access: http://techinfo.subaru.com/
A few active members have those here...I'll try remember who :)

Also there's Arnold stateside, swapped a jdm postfl 2.0t into usdm spec b iirc.

There's also info out there on cam sensor swaps, iirc some grinding of the mount bolt or sensor housing and the camshaft notch is required...
This is specific to later model 257 to jdm 207 heads:

Failing that, try google :)

Thank you! I'll dig through the member results, but the Google link about Arnold's swap doesn't work. The cam sensor link is great info as is the second set of Google results. Thanks so much, I've looked at so much stuff that I'm going cross-eyed, I hate trying to make wiring happy. If anyone else has input I'd love it, I'm going to dig through these, I really wish I knew Japanese

Fixed :)
He may have swapped the entire loom but it's a good read regardless...
The other good tip was the Iwire loom conversion...
Using chrome with auto translate might be the go for Japanese sites...
