Questions about a H6 MY06 Liberty

Postby Soba » Fri Jun 30, 2017 6:50 pm

Hey guys,

About to hopefully purchase my first of many of these beautiful cars, just wondering if there are any things I should lookout for/questions to ask before I do purchase the car.
The model in question is the MY06 Liberty 3.0R Spec.B 4th Gen, will be picking it up for about $8,700 with only a month or two left on rego with 130-140,000kms on the clock.
I am aware of the oil burning/leak problems in this specific engine but any other little things to look out for would be gladly appreciated!

Thanks all,
Soba.

There are certainly thing that are extremely likely that need to be done, if it's manual the centre diff will need to be rebuilt, CorgiWerx is that man for that. Also things like rear diff bushes but that's not too bad.

Look out for Head Gasket, that is a VERY expensive fix if it needs doing.

Look out for knocks in the suspension (see Bilstein knock thread).

Check service history, important on a high-tech engine like the H6.

As a general hint (not necessarily H6 related): check the oil level, if it's below the low marking, walk away. If they can't get it right at time of sale, imagine how it's been treated the rest of the time.

It is only an automatic so the diff's hopefully won't need to be rebuilt.

As for checking for suspension knocks this is as far as driving goes correct?

Thanks for the replies.
