The existing bolts were too long with these plates so either shorter bolts are needed or just whip out the grinder like I did and shorten them by 10-15mm.

Codes that needed disabling. These are the ones needed for JDM cars, USDM ones had more codes to disable.

Hi andy_mac,
I just finished blocking off the Secondary Air Pump, with the KSTech Block-Off Kit (the one that leaves all the parts of the Air Pump System in place). You mentioned retaining the Atmospheric Pressure sensor. Did you do some logging to compare the Atmospheric Pressure against Manifold Pressure (to make sure it's still reading correctly)?

If so, do you know if that has to be done with the engine off? Because my readings do not match with the engine running. I guess that makes sense, but I just wanted to confirm.

Ahhh never actually put much thought into it to be honest. Had read that the sensor needed to be retained to keep the ECU happy so did just that. I know from logging the car see's an accurate absolute and relative reading but that comes from the MAP sensor. Not sure if the car actually uses the airpump solenoid sensor for its air density boost correction or just the MAP for a one time check when the car first starts each time.
Atmosphere and manifold pressure would definately be different when running.
What are the exact pressure parameters you're logging that you think are wrong?
It should be sitting at around 14.XX for the absolute reading in Romraider and the same for the atmospheric reading in Learning View. Learning View is the only time I ever see an atmospheric reading and thats always around 14.65psi

Ok, no problem. Yeah, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense that the Manifold pressure with the engine running can't be the same as atmospheric pressure. The two just have to match when the engine is off.

A few Legacy GT Forum guys mentioned issues when the car changes in altitude, causing it not to run right. But since you kept the sensor, you shouldn't have a problem. It was probably the guys who accidentally removed it with the whole Secondary Air Pump System Incl Sensor, that ran into trouble.

RomRaider gave me the option to display the Athmospheric Pressure Sensor reading, and Manifold Pressure (Relative Pressure, and some other one). So that's what I did, and it looked fine with the engine off. And yeah, about 14 psi near sea level. It was just the differing values with the engine running that confused me.

Yea makes sense the guys with altitude correction issues didn't keep the sensor which would mean the ECU must use that one for its reference. Sounds like yours is all sweet then.

Bit of an update on things.

Changed the Tablets power source to come directly from one of the under dash fuses and got a much beefier power supply to go with it. Getting a pretty solid ~900+mAh now which is enough to have it almost always mostly charged which is a huge improvement over it never getting above 10% previously.

Image

At the same time I picked up a much larger pump. Most of the all knowledgeable internet believed a pump that size would be sweet to chuck in and the OEM reg would still stay on top of it. Of course that wasn't the case and fuel trims down low were almost pegged at -15%. Never had an inline gauge so don't know if the fuel pressures with the new pump and old reg were skyhigh or not.
Dropped the pumps duty cycle and chucked in an aftermarket reg which still doesn't seem to have completely cured the problem annoyingly so still working on it.
BTSSM has been an unbelievably usefull tool for dealing with this issue, now that the tablets more consistantly powered i'd say it is by far my favourite mod i've done on the car.

Nice btssm recommendation :good:
Did you up the base pressure on the aftermarket reg?

Kept it at 43psi which supposedly is what the stock one runs too.

Got to the bottom of the fuelling issues, partially me being a muppet.
Can safely say the car is running smoother than it has in a good few years. Finally enjoying driving it again.

Plus purchased a couple of goodies.

Some Z20 Legacy DAVCS heads that'll go on the EJ257 with some mild cams and springs.

And a Zerosport grille to finish off the front end

Yea. Not quite the same heads, supposedly the z20 ones are ever so slightly better. And kinda want to be able to put the whole engine together before pulling the old one so the downtime is as short as possible. That's the theory atleast, probably won't really work out that way though

Na not quite stock. Gonna chuck pistons in the new 257 so it doesn't blow a ringland and cams, springs and a mild port on the heads. Should be all it needs to get around the 300kw figure with the Holset

Na no kit, gonna be a hell of a DIY job. They apparently do really well on the TS Legacy headers so only need to extend the uppipe runners to reach the higher location and sort out an EWG.
Yea they're pretty damn huge, quite different fitment to EFR's, they're super long which makes them a bastard to fit on righthand drive cars where the Holset's have huge housings but are still relatively short.

Got a bit of a DIY how-to to work with too.

Have done a couple of things since the last update.

First up, replaced front and rear indicator bulbs with chrome coated ones as the orange bulbs in there always bugged me. Plus blacked out a STI badge to go in the grille as it looked way too empty with nothing at all.

Next up was a bit of an experiment to see if opening up the wastegate side on the stock, decatted downpipe would make any difference at all.
Next to no difference in reality and reckon any difference in feel is just a placebo effect. Only cost was for the flange so no harm done really. May have more of an impact if pushing things more aggressively with a retune but not worth the time or money.

Image

Image

Managed to get lucky and pick up a set of almost new MCA X-C coilovers including rear damper extenders for a steal so finally have decent even ride height. Performance compared to the stock Bilsteins is amazing too, way less body roll while being more comfortable at the same time. They came with some super soft spings so may fork out for the next rate up for both front and rear at some point.
Also did Whiteline KTA124 adjustable arms at the same time.

Lastly is replacement Rotors and pads all round. Front rotors are on backorder but got the rears in already.
For rotors went DBA T3's for the front and T2's for the rear
Then Bendix Ultimates all round for pads, a bit squeaky at times but dust seems better than the last pads and initial bite is alot more aggressive.
